2GN2S ...

(Santa) Daruma

A new Daruma doll comes without the
eyes painted (and the Santa hat). This tradition of painting the Daruma eyes is symbolic in Japanese culture. The doll is a representation of Daruma (Bodhidharma) who founded Zen Buddhism around the 5th century. The story goes, Daruma meditated against a wall for 9 years and as a result, his arms and legs fell off from atrophy. This is why the doll does not have arms and legs. There is a weight placed in the bottom of the doll so when it falls over it stands right back up every time. This is symbolic of the saying, Nana Karobi Ya Oki (Fall down 7 times, get up 8). When starting a new goal, one eye is painted in while making a wish. By looking at only the one eye painted, one is reminded of the goal they wished for.  Once that goal is realized, the second eye is painted to represent the accomplishment.

Argentina vs. France : Messi, Argentina win World Cup

Emiliano Martinez saves Kingsley Coman's penalty kick

Argentina won the World Cup yesterday, the country's third title, outlasting defending champion France in penalty kicks in one of the most exciting finals in recent years. Argentine superstar Lionel Messi scored two goals in what he said will likely be his last World Cup appearance.

Argentina controlled much of the game, going up 2-0 with goals in the 23rd and 36th minutes by Messi and Ángel Di María. The score held until the 80th minute, when 23-year-old French star Kylian Mbappé scored, and then followed up with a stunning goal less than 90 seconds later (w/video).

The match went into extra time, with Messi again scoring in the 108th minute, and being countered by a Mbappé goal with just minutes left to play, sending the outcome to penalty kicks. Argentina won the round 4-2, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez stopping the second shot from France.

Watch highlights from throughout the match here.

Thank you again Jacki, How do you get these wonderful blogs done with all the holiday activities? And I love your "less is more" package wraps too: so very elegant and creative.

You may or may not know that pretty much all sports could stop and it wouldn't affect me that much. But Stan is a soccerholic. So I got a play by play from him on the final game. He said Hollywood could not have made a better story. I do know that when my daughter danced, I became more interested in it and realized the strength and balance and hard work it took. So perhaps that is what causes others to get so involved in various sports.
By the way: Bentley is not only willing to help get rid of cookies, he is an expert and almost all human food, plus shoes and tissues. LOL!
Have a wonderful Christmas. It will be fun to see what your family does this year, and it will be a change from last Christmas when you all lived near each other. Big hug.

Such a sad and hopeless look of this child. No child deserves this tragedy. I'm sure they are dreaming the life we are living right now.

Isn’t that the case in every war? The innocent always are affected…..in this case the children.

Thank you Carrol, I LOVE hearing from you! I just have to dedicate 2 hours or plus that if my art work doesn't cooperate! If I look forward it is scary, if I look back, I am a little proud of doing it for 3776 days, but each day is a task or search or prayer?

I knew when I posted the World Cup that it wouldn't interest many, but the update is mainly what I am up, and Sunday Morning it was all World Cup. Stan is right, it was amazing not matter which side you were pulling for, and the millions watching with you. Also, I so admire dancers, athletes chess -players - anybody who devotes themselves to an activity where near perfection is the goal. Especially at 81 to see these superb humans in peak health and performance - Wow!It's silly, but the muscles, such as they are now, still twitch and tighten as I try to help the kicker! ;o)This is the longest comment response ever!!!

I would love to be cuddling Bentley, I am overdue for dog love, but will get five days of Zoey soon. Merry Christmas Carrol and Stan, I love you both!
