A re-post of blog  Day #264, April 17, 2013
2,116 days ago and a step-by-step.

             Using a 18x24" digital ...
for the background

and papers I started ...
drawing Sara with white
on the darker background.

Initially using just papers and gel medium ...
at one point I thought she might be a blonde?

But, she seemed to want red.
I layered in the shadows and simple areas.

Using sewing patterns and white tissue for skin tone.
I decided to keep the original upper background.

At this point, I started adding some acrylic
to the face to accentuate smaller details,

but sparingly, so the collage shows through.
I'm thinking 95% paper, 5% acrylic.

This was a one day effort, some days are productive,
as Sara seemed to cooperate and
tell me what she needed.

Sleepy, early this morning, I was on my MacPro laptop.
Apple messaged me my storage was full on my Icloud.
It gave me the option of buying more storage,
(I already pay a monthly fee for extra storage)
or to manage.  I picked manage. I hear laughing.
A couple more clicks and poof, all my photos are gone!
And, everything on the desktop, except the dock!
I remember seeing that it will be stored in archive.
Where is archive? I wanted to cry. but I didn't.
I will call apple support and some kind genius will help me.
So I just finished a lunch of leftovers and will call soon.
I hear laughing.
A call to 1-800-my apple, and Katrina helped me.
I upgraded to 2T storage so am safe for a while,
but now paying $9.99 a month.
All is good with help.

I hear laughing.

I have several blogs that I follow faithfully,
really enjoying their take on art or life.
One is John Arbuckle, Seattle artist & good friend's here.
Besides his own talented work, he features a video on art.
Today he introduced me to Njideka Akunyili Crosby.
I am now a fan, and really captivated by her work.

Njideki Akunyili Crosby was born in Nigeria in 1983
and moved to the United States at the age of sixteen,
where she has lived and worked ever since.
Drawing on artistic, historical, political and personal references, Akunyili Crosby creates densely layered figurative compositions that conjure the complexity of contemporary experience.
Her cultural identity combines strong attachments to the
country of her birth and to her adopted home,
a hybrid identity reflected in her work. Winner of the
MacArthur Fellowship, commonly known as the Genius Grant.

Finished an earlier job, so finally started on "Daisy"...
a 14x14" wide canvas, for Jane Ice if she likes it.

my original idea in a quick sketch

I felt she was a Gatsby type lady, and asked for help
with a name, Norma came up with Daisy! Perfect!

I received a gift with this beautiful two tone tissue, so ...

I wrap the tissue around all canvas edges.

deciding on orange for the hair, so far.

base work done, almost.

This is definitely not finished, maybe half done.
There will be a feather from the headband like in the drawing.
This is the base I will work from, adding a lot of layers.
I will post Daisy again when she is done.
 Feedback is always welcome.

Seems like a lot of busy days lately. Some emotional stuff.
So Sunday found me extra lazy, sloth-like in fact.
I didn't have a commitment till 6 pm, so I stayed in bed.
Watched tennis, fell asleep, watched ice skating, fell asleep.
I knew I had work to do, a blog to do & more.
Then I remembered I had leftovers from dinner last night.
Craig, Jean and I had a lovely dinner at Naan & Kabob.
Persian food, and the best chicken I have ever had.
I talked too much during dinner and ate less than half,
and a doggie bag was in order.
Some of it was my Sunday breakfast or brunch.

Do sloths have brunch? Maybe, slowly?
I don't feel guilty being so lazy,
I think it's time well spent doing nothing?
Balances things out?
After church had dinner with Superman, WonderWoman
and the four Grandhunks ...

Grandhunks 1,2 4 & 3

WonderWoman cooked a wonderful meal,
(Superman is a great cook too!).
And, she sent me home with leftovers too.
Maybe Monday's breakfast?

Muse Mail is a group of 12 terrific artists.
We send one postcard a month to a designated member.
We can use any art media. I am using collage for Beau.

I will mail the January Muse Mail tomorrow, January 27th ...
I received mine from Julie Miller on January 20th, see here.
