Takahama Cafe Offers Views of the Tottori Sand Dunes

Newly opened Takahama Cafe, a dramatic, timber structure that recently opened. Part cafe and part observation deck, the cafe was designed by architectKengo Kuma and offers spectacular views of the Tottori Sand Dunes.

Having just opened this summer, Takahama Cafe is located directly across the street from the Tottori Sakyu Visitor Center, making it an ideal location for a quick refreshment before heading towards the dunes. The 3-story structure is designed to look like a staircase to the sky and its interior is inspired by the graceful mounds and ridges of the dunes themselves. You can find exact directions on their website, as well as on Instagram.
Nearby is Hot Air, a used car dealership that just happens to offer Michelin-star ramen. It’s just a 20-minute drive from the sand dunes.

The interior is defined by wood paneling inspired by dunes and light pendants made of Washi paper sprinkled with local sand

I am embarrassed but flattered to say we are still celebrating. Today, Tuesday was our last Eastside Art Group get-together for the year. Normally one of eight teaches an art project, but this one we each bring an appetizer to share and a hand-made gift for all.

Everyone had 7 gifts to open,

We ooed and awwed over our gifts. Each artist had outdone themselves in terms of creativity and thoughtfulness. Then we ate and complimented on the great food selection. Then we started talking! That was when the laughter began and continued. Seven ladies can really talk, and it became difficult to hear everything. I'm not sure who made the suggestion ... that we could only talk if we were holding the little, shiny green Christmas tree!

I apologize for the quality of photos  but we were all laughing so hard, and I didn't take time to focus. None of us can remember how many years Eastside has been together, but it's fairly safe to say ten plus! In all those years there been so many fun events and great memories, but today was the best ever, by far. Jody gave us our motto years ago, "I love us!".

And after all that, Linda brought out a cake and they sang Happy Birthday to Josie (12/26) and me (12/11) and there were more gifts! I feel so lucky to have these ladies in my life.

A 2+minute video, Turkish ice cream, here.

The fun you had with your Eastside friends jumps off the screen. :-). Son is special. I know I have said this before but your drawing could be characters in a children’s book. :-)

Always enjoy what you find. And what a party I had seen the amazing structure from a company's ad. Your holiday party was so much fun vicariously. I remember those times with a special group of friends. And thank you for the recipe for Turkish ice cream. I did sample it in Istanbul recently and wondered: actually prefer ours here. But why travel if you don't get into the spirit of the place, right?
Anyway thank you again: a great start to the day.
