Manolo Blahnik and Birkenstock:

Why high fashion finds this functional footwear brand irresistible?

Manolo Blahnik x Birkenstock collaboration released March 24.

At a Paris menswear show in January this year, Dior revealed its own forthcoming Birkenstock redesign -- complete with engraved Dior buckles and embroidered flowers.

While at first glance Birkenstocks may seem incongruous with luxury, the brand has become a magnet for high fashion labels -- even more so since the beginning of the pandemic, when consumer appetites shifted toward extreme comfort. In 2020, British Vogue named Birkenstocks the sandal of the year.

In February 2021, Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF made waves with their "Birkenstock" drop -- a handful of sandals made from deconstructed Hermès Birkin bags. Though MSCHF's controversial shoes (priced between $34,000 and $76,000) were not affiliated with the Birkenstock brand or Hermès.

 Really?

Quote of the day ...

"Charity can be a lifestyle, not merely a gift.

Read charitably. Give the author your most favorable interpretation.

Listen charitably. Donate your undivided attention.

Work charitably. Be generous with your expertise.

In this way, you make charity a daily habit."

I can not even imagine what it is like to be in the Ukraine right now. My heart goes out to all Ukrainians living the life they are living right now.

Thanks, John, I agree. It permeates out thinking, when they are enduring unconscionable war crimes, with bravery.

Just watched your recommended video and remembered when I saw Michael Jackson for the first time. We were on holiday in Italy with our young boys. One evening we went for a pizza in a little restaurant where the tv was on. We were so impressed seeing him dancing, he was so amazing.

I'm afraid you will have to create quite a lot more of your excellent collages to honor the Ukrainian people. This unbelievable tragedy is always on my mind.

Thank you Elenor, I am so glad that you liked the video. Yes, I agree the tragedy continues and seeps into our thoughts and days. Just heartbreaking to see what the Ukrainians are suffering.
