Gyoda Rice Paddy Art (Saitama prefecture)
If it’s size that matters to you, head to the Gyoda rice paddies of Saitama prefecture, which were recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2015 as having the world’s largest rice field art. Since 2008, the farmers here have been planting different varieties of rice according to blueprints. During July the different colored rice grows, slowly filling out and completing the work of art, which is usually unveiled in mid-August.
This year in Gyoda, Mount Fuji with large waves by Edo period artist Katsushika Hokusai and a powerful kabuki actor are dynamically displayed.
This work is expressed using perspective, and if you look at it from the ground, you’ll only see an ordinary rice paddy.
The artwork reveals itself only from the 50-meter high observatory of the Ancient Lotus Hall in the city’s Ancient Lotus Village park. The best time to see it is in September but it can be enjoyed until it is harvested in October.
Thanks for coming by today.

Jacki, your collage is brilliant! I love the color combination and the use of text.
How lovely to see you in nice company of dear friends. There is nothing better than to spend time with family or friends.
I guess you are already excited that your surgery comes nearer. Just a few days left until you get a new shoulder. Stay safe.
Thanks so much Elenor, yes I am so anxious for Thursday. I have a few to do 's before then. I hop you had a lovely weekend.
Just plain cool! I love the shades of green with black and red. Those rice paddy art pieces are fantastic, too. :-)
Thanks, John. I enjoyed this collage, it just seemed to want to work together?
