Shelby Rogers stuns No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in third round of US Open

I watch the US Open and today there was a really special match. Shelby Rogers was one of four USA women to still be in the third round. Very likable,  but not expected to be able to match the number one seed, Ashleigh Barry. However, through a series of minor miracles and tenacity, the world’s top-ranked tennis player has been defeated.

Shelby Rogers rallied back to knock off No. 1 Ashleigh Barty 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), in the third round of the US Open on Saturday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium in a thrilling third-set tiebreaker match.

I’m not sure I can [explain it],” Rogers said on the court. “I just said make balls try to stay in this match, it can’t get any worse. You’ve lost to her every time. Try something different.”

Rogers came out hot after dropping the initial game, winning the next three to take a quick lead on Saturday night. Though Barty took a dominant game 5, Rogers made easy work of the next three to close it out.

Barty made 17 unforced errors in that first set, something that clearly didn't help the Australian.

It was a wonderful two hours and when Shelby cried, I did too.

Happy tears for her, but tears none the less. Then again, I cry pretty easy nowadays. At the drop of a hat, as they say. Anybody's hat.

The expression on the face is so strong, you see the sadness and want to console her immediately. The colors are perfect too. Simply great, Jacki.
It was a wonderful day today. As you know there is nothing better than spending some time with children and grandchildren.
I hope you enjoyed your day too.
