Western Lowland Gorilla Born at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute
For the first time in five years, primate staff at the Smithsonian’s
National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) are celebrating
the birth of a western lowland gorilla—a critically endangered species.
It was born between midnight and 6:15 a.m. May 27 to 20-year-old mother
Calaya and 31-year-old father Baraka. They bred in September 2022
following a breeding recommendation from the Association of Zoos and
Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan (SSP). This is the second offspring for
both parents.
Three terrific videos, here.
More of the series old things around here, besides me.
Aunt Vonda's bible. Dated August 30, 1961.
Inside the paper pages are soft from use,
Notes, mementos, favorite passages underlined.
A treasure.
Just because ...
Thanks for coming by today ...

I love how the junk mail with text becomes an element in your piece. For me it is more a graphic element. :-)
Can anybody ever get used to everyday chaos? I don't think so. You showed this in your collage perfectly.
Jacki, your series of old things around here is such a good idea. I really enjoy it. Seeing Aunt Vonda's handwriting and seeing what she wrote down is a treat. Thanks.
Thank you, John. I am especially drawn to text.
Thank you, Elenor. Yes, I really do love old things, and if they have belonged to family - even better.
