A re-post from my blog, Day 1887, September 23, 2017.
Maybe it's because I too am broken,
but aren't many of us in some way?
I love the Japanese custom of Kintsugi!
Nothing is ever truly broken ... that's the philosophy behind the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi, which repairs smashed pottery by using beautiful gold.

The story of Kintsugi.
In the 15th century when Japanese military commander, Ashikaga Yoshimasa broke a beloved Chinese tea bowl and disappointed with a shoddy repair, he asked the craftsmen to find a pleasing repair method.
Translated to “golden joinery,” Kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi, which means
“golden repair”) the centuries-old Japanese
art gives a unique appearance to broken pottery
repaired with a seam of lacquer and precious metal.

Trust the Japanese to encapsulate the wisdom of the ages into a single object. Theirs is a culture with an enviable talent for clarity of both thought and communication, and with an admirable attitude to what really matters in life.

Kintsugi often makes the repaired piece even more beautiful than
the original, revitalizing it with new life.

the 3 predominant styles of Kintsugi: crack, piece method, and joint-call can be found here.
Monday, June 26, 2023:
Scheduled to fly from Nevada to Orange County at 8 AM, I got up at 6 AM arrived at the airport at 7:30 to be early. I needn't have. Our JetX plane was delayed thirty minutes, then another 30 minutes, and yes, another 30 minutes, and again! At 10:30 we finally boarded and even taxied out to the runway, but something was wrong, and we went back, and stayed on the plane till they determined it would take too long to fix, so we deplaned, they ordered a new one.
There was a scheduled flight at 11:15, but it was full. I had a good book with me, but I was getting sleepy. I was approached by a angel from heaven, disguised as a JetX employee. She apologized for the delay and was so sweet and sincere. She said you must be tired? I said a little, but that I was okay. She asked if I was hungry, and again I said I was okay. "You must be hungry?" I said a little but that I would be fine. She said that she would order my lunch and to pick out whatever I wanted, as she handed me a menu from Zupas in Las Vegas. At her insistence I ordered a Cobb salad and a coke. She came back with a coke and a glass of ice, and said I would be on the 1:15 flight and that she had arranged for my bag to be transferred, and gave me my new boarding pass! About now I am feeling like royalty, and this was not lost on the other passengers. I asked her name and she said Daniella, and I told her I was thinking she must be an angel. When I had finished my salad, she came by again and took what was left away. I thanked her again, she said she hoped we would meet again. I said the whole day was worth it to meet her. We hugged and then it was time to board, for real.
Jet X is a smaller, private airline of Jet Blue, only 30 passengers, 3 crew, no security lines, roomy seats, checked baggage is waiting for you when you deplane. So much easier.
Grandhunk #2 was waiting for me when we arrived. I call this a feel-good story?
