U.S. Speedskater's 'Honorable Move' Allows Friend To Replace Her In Olympic Race

 

 Brittany Bowe stepped aside so Erin Jackson, who slipped in the trials, could skate the 500 meters in Beijing. Brittany Bowe didn’t want to go to her third and likely final Olympics without Erin Jackson.

 So after Jackson slipped and didn’t qualify in the 500 meters at the U.S. speedskating trials in Milwaukee, a stunning result for the world’s top-ranked skater in the event. Bowe knew what she wanted to do.

"Erin has a shot to bring home a medal – hopefully a gold medal – and it’s my honor to give her that opportunity. She’s earned it and she deserves it." @BrittanyBowe on her decision to give up her Olympic spot in the 500m to her friend @ErinJackson480. @USSpeedskating @OnHerTurf
