 2GN2S

As mentioned yesterday, this is the first year for Karate in the Olympics.

Due to 60 different sports, viewing has been hard, NBC and it's sister stations naturally concentrate on the most popular sports. So live streaming happens early morning, like 1 or 4 am! But we are hardy, and if we miss it, there will be youtube. I pulled some photos from the competition, as you might not see it otherwise.

Karate events are held in the Budo-kan, Tokyo.

Men's Kata

Ryo Kijuna, Japan

Damien Quintero, Spain

And, first USA Bronze medalist, Ariel Torres.

A favorite photo of the Olympic Karate competition was of Ryo Kiyuna, holding up the flower bouquet, in his track suit jacket, sporting the gold medal, while holding a photo of his mom ... who passed away a couple of years ago of cancer. I am sure she's looking down upon him with pride as are we all ... what a champion

 * If you watch today's 5 min video, you will meet Ariel as he takes you through the Olympic athlete village and surrounds. Also yesterdays video, here.

Kumite (sparring) is performed by weight class. It is ongoing and I only have a few photos so far.

•  A terrific 5-minute video, athlete's village, here.

Wonderful collage, Jacki.
Today's pics of the Olympics are really impressive. I'm sure you are enjoying all competitions and maybe you can forget about the pain a bit because they are so exciting.

Thanks, John! I’m going to have Olympic withdrawal, but maybe I’ll get something done after 2 weeks?
