Meoto Iwa (夫婦岩)

Meoto Iwa (夫婦岩), or Married Couple Rocks, is a  kind of rock formation seen as religiously significant in Shinto. They are a subtype of Iwakura rock. According to Shinto Religion, the rocks represent the union of the creator kami, Izanagi and Izanami. The rocks, therefore, celebrate the union in marriage of man and woman They are joined by a shimenawa (a heavy rope of rice straw) and are considered sacred by worshippers of the shrine

The shimenawa, composed of five separate strands which each weigh 40 kilograms,[1] must be replaced several times a year in a special ceremony. The larger rock, said to be male, has a small torii at its peak.  At dawn during the summer, the sun appears to rise between the two rocks. Mount Fuji is visible in the distance. At low tide, the rocks are not separated by the water.

I have friends who recently had their 41st Anniversary and I sent them wishes with the Meoto Iwa image, and thought of sharing this with you. This image appeals to me.

I highlight passages when I read.
Do you?

I am often moved by writers who can assemble
just the right words to convey their meaning.

One of the world's great mysteries: how you post such stellar blogs day by day. Loved the children playing the instruments made of junk: it just shows human creativity, as well as a desire for something other than just existing. The rocks being tied together is so interesting, and a beautiful story.

The small child with tears in his eyes as he is handed the flag made me tear up.

Bentley could have posed for the ball and sofa joke.

And last but certainly not least, you art is always fascinating, to the point and makes us all think.

Have a great holiday. Hugs

It's terrible to feel betrayed, to BE betrayed!
I feel so sorry for that boy who got back a flag instead of his dad.

Happy new week, Jacki!

Thank you, Carrol! I always love hearing from you, you fuel me to keep going. I am weary of doing war art, but they are more so.r
