2GN2S ...

Great images in weather photography competition

Dramatic lightning strikes, extreme climate events, icy spectacles and sublime sun scenes are among the stunning images shortlisted for the Weather Photographer of the Year 2022 competition.

A selection of which showcases some of nature's most artistic moments. This is the Royal Meteorological Society's 7th edition of the contest.

On a beautiful mountain in Taiwan, Rossi Fang captured this photo of the warm sun melting the frozen mountain world of the night before.

Days of heavy rain in the UK led to water cascading down the dam wall of Wet Sleddale reservoir near the village of Shap in Cumbria. Andrew McCaren captured this photo as he wanted to illustrate the heavy rain and strong winds brought to the UK by Storm Dennis in February 2020.

During the early hours of the night, Luo Xing captured this photo of lightning strikes over Chongqing, in China.

Following an overcast and rainy evening, the sun appeared through the clouds and mist just in time for Aung Chan Thar to capture this beautiful sunset photo in Myanmar.

During a beautiful, calm evening in Tankerton, Kent, in England, Brendan Conway captured this image of people being treated to a spectacular mock mirage sunset over the Thames Estuary. He says that "a bonus mirage caused buildings in Southend to appear to levitate."

On a full moon night, with a storm moving away and one last lightning strike, was what photographer Enric Navarrete Bachs called "dream lightning."

Krzysztof Tollas captured a frosty and picturesque sunrise over the Gwda River in Poland.

Carlos Castillejo Balsera arrived in the dark, early morning to watch a big storm form over Barcelona, Spain. "As dawn was breaking, I could see a large waterspout sliding down in front of the harbour. From time to time, a flash of lightning illuminated the scene."

After chasing storms and showers across the UK's Isle of Wight to capture some incredible rainbows, Jamie Russell reached Bembridge as the final shower left.

An overnight stop in Tarbet, Loch Lomond in Scotland, and an early morning trek with dogs Oscar and Ollie up Cruach Tairbert revealed this beautiful misty scene to Vince Campbell.

Hi from Henderson, Nevada, above Las Vegas

We saw the lovebirds off this morning. An Uber picked them up to go to LV airport to catch a non-stop flight to Miami, FL.

We includes Laker and Zoey, my granddogs, and I.

(obviously thrilled to stay with Grandma)

Today is their 27 anniversary, and they dated for three years before that, so 30 years together. As I watched them go, I had the wish that all couples could love each other that much. They are more in love now than before, and it melts my heart to watch.

Happy 27th Anniversary, Bassel & Erin!

Great blog today Jacki! Love the graphic, and the photography.
I have seen the video before, but it is like watching ballet, so it was fun to enjoy again. I am liking glimpses of Erin's new digs too.
