"Tokyo (Santa in the Snow)" (1950)

It's hard to imagine a softer, quieter night than the 

one created by woodblock print artist Kawase Hasui in 1950.

 A snowstorm has just given way to a clear night and 

only one dares to leave a mark on the fresh coat of snow, 

which has rounded out all the edges of the surroundings. 

In a world without chimneys...

Santa uses his legs to make the rounds.
