We're all friends here
Charlie's Bar, a little pub in Northern Ireland, is winning hearts because of their tear-jerking, warm-fuzzies-inducing Christmas ad. In it, an older man lays flowers at his wife's grave and then greets passersby as he walks through the town of Enniskillen. None of them take much notice of him. Then, he walks into Charlie's Bar and is greeted by a sweet little dog, followed by the dog's owners, who fall into friendly conversation over a drink. It ends with the oft-quoted words: "There are no strangers here, only friends you haven’t yet met." The bar says it's gotten a huge response, and people have even contacted the place to donate money for anyone who may come in alone, in need of a little cheer. I for one think companies are fully aware of how easily our emotions can be prodded during the holiday season, when our souls are already beaten soft by tradition and commercialism and candlelit gatherings and the nostalgic strains of old Christmas songs. But Charlie's Bar is using that power for good.
Still another short story ...
ARTbar, circa 2009 |
Years ago I used to demonstrate for the ARTbar during ArtWalk at Santa Ana, Ca. Art District. It was fun, and I usually got some work done. I recently came across this photo and thought I'd tell the story that goes with it. Families came by, and these kids wanted to stay, so their parents went on to other galleries, to return later. As I was starting to put down a piece of paper on the canvas, I looked up to see the young lady on the right (maybe 5?) ... shaking her head, no. I said, "no?". She shook her head, no. I moved it to another space, and checked with her. She nodded yes, and that's where it went.My youngest critic, and I think she was right on!

You are the good stuff!
When I saw the name of today's video, I had to laugh. I showed it to Naseem the first time you posted it, and he loved it. I think we may have watched it about 50 times by now. And we did see something in later views that we had missed before: she doesn't put in enough money according to what the machine says the snack costs. That's why she has to bang on the machine.
Anyway, it is great and we even had to leave a comment.
The watercolor of the two children with the last comment is beautiful. I have often thought how dull the world would be if everyone was just like me. So sad that differences scare so many people.
Always love your lbogs
Thank you for always including me!! Every wonderful bit of this blog made my day!
Also, I share the memes (copy/paste) with my sister and bff every morning! Such JOY! Love you forever & even longer, Paula 🩷
What a cute pic of you and the young children watching you. It'd be interesting to know what they are doing now. If the young lady has become an artist? Could be?
Aww, Teery, thank you, you made my day. Ron MY LAPTOP IS NOT GIVING ME ACCESS TO THE UPPER SYMBOLS ON THE KEYBOARD OR THWEW WOULD BE SOME EXCLAMATION POINTS.
