WNBA legend Sue Bird retires after this season

Sue Bird will retire as the all-time assist leader in the WNBA.

Sue Bird, one of the winningest basketball players ever, will retire from the WNBA after this season, the Seattle Storm guard announced Thursday.

Bird, 41, told reporters that she feels like she has played as long as she can at a very high level physically and mentally.

She said she looks forward to things that basketball seasons keeps a player from, pointing out she won’t have to set an alarm for early morning workouts and she can take real vacations without an eye on the next year. But she will miss the “grind” moments – hard practices and a difficult travel schedule – because “you’re still doing it with a team,” she added.

Her hope, Bird said, is to find something that fulfills her in that way but she knows it will be hard to replace things that are part of life as a pro athlete. She alluded to an ESPN show she did with Diana Taurasi during the Final Four, saying cheekily, “Maybe that becomes a thing.”

When asked whether the announcement made for a happy or sad day, she said it was a combination.

“Not a lot of people do something for their entire lives the way that athletes do,” she said, pointing out it was the end of a sporting life that began when she was 5 or 6. She looks forward to retirement, saying she was excited and, “I get to start this new life.”

Update ...

While at Norma's home last Tuesday, I was so impressed with this large cactus in her front yard, actually she had several but this was the biggest.

I think it might be in the saguaro cactus family, but I am not sure, and didn't know how to look it up?

I liken it to a family tree, and seems so healthy.

They seemed to pose for the photo?

Maybe when Norma sees this she will tell me this type of cactus that fascinates me, and I'll come back and update the update.

And one more, this sweet little gourd was given to me as a test gourd to practice my wood burning for the project last Tuesday. It was just so perfect that I couldn't cut it and instead, brought this perfect little gourd home in all it's glory to have a special spot in my studio. Isn't it perfect?

Happy Saturday!

So there's a feature on Google phones called Google Lens. After you take a picture, you can look at the picture and click on this button, and it will search the internet for closest matches.

So I took a picture of your picture, and one of the first ones on the list is Cereus jamacaru. Not sure, there seem to be a lot of similarly-looking types of cactus.
