Texas Restaurant Posts Funny Signs Every Day to Lift People’s Spirits

 S
ome businesses are trying their best to spread a bit of joy throughout their communities. Tex-Mex restaurant El Arroyo, for example, has become an internet sensation for its funny, offbeat signs.

The Austin-based establishment's witty messages are updated daily and beloved by locals and online fans alike.

The nostalgic marquee sign has been around since El Arroyo was established in 1975, and remains an essential part of the landmark's playful character.

Every day, visitors can expect to see a new note posted on the placard.

In the past El Arroyo has poked fun at a myriad of different topics, but recently the quirky restaurant has been trying to find some solace in the COVID-19 lockdown like the rest of us.

When their in-dining experience was temporarily closed, El Arroyo is still updating its Instagram with daily observations about life in quarantine.

Paige Winstanley, co-owner of El Arroyo, says about the sign: “In these times when much is unknown, El Arroyo finds our comfort in bringing smiles and laughter to our community on a daily basis.”

Do you have a funny sign idea? Enthusiasts can submit suggestions to El Arroyo via email (sign@elarroyo.com).

Update ...

WonderWoman flew into town Wednesday, from Lake Havasu, AZ. For only two days and a lot of people to see. We have to learn to share. First she had lunch with her Dad. Then a hair appointment, then she took flowers to her in laws, Superman's Mother and Dad. Then I was next. Soon after her arrival at my house, Cheryl and Carole arrived and Cheryl drove us to the Spectrum in Irvine for a dinner reservation at Xavier's. Yum!

After we got home, I knew WW must be tired from an already long day, but I needed her help to make a Snapchat video to send to Minnesota for an upcoming 50th anniversary. Do you know Snapchat? You can play at making yourself look a lot of different ways. This was our attempt at a glamour shot. I have never looked like that, but we had fun.

My little 1 minute video took 12 tries and we laughed so hard. I looked like this ...

WW went to bed, and I stayed up to post Thursday's blog. We woke up at 5:30. WW said the birds were having a party. We talked for an hour and it was another treasured time. Then she was off to play golf with her girls.

Amy & WW,  Newport Beach.

WW, Heidi, Tami, Amy, Kerry, Dina.

After lunch she met best friend, Kerry for lunch then shopping. Tonight she will stay at Kerry's and charge her car for her trip home in the morning. A quick trip but so welcome.

Jacki, I think you are right about the title of the blog. It really is better not to read a disturbing title. Today I immediately know that only your daughter could be meant and so I was already positively tempered (hope this is the right word?). I'm glad you had a happy time with your daughter. I also had a very happy time with my younger son and girlfriend who came for a surprisingly visit.
Happy weekend!
