2GN2S ...
“Books are frozen voices,
in the same way that musical scores are frozen music.
The score is a way of transmitting the music to
someone who can play it,
releasing it into the air where it can once more be heard.
And the black alphabet marks on the page represent words
that were once spoken, if only in the writer’s head.
They lie there inert until a reader comes along and
transforms the letters into living sounds.
The reader is the musician of the book:
each reader may read the same text,
just as each violinist plays the same piece,
but each interpretation is different.”

Hannah, 8/2011 |
Sometimes when you teach a long time, a student might invite you to attend an event Thursday was a special event, Hannah graduated from Costa Mesa High School. *You may remember me mentioning Hannah in an earlier blog, here.
And, Thursday evening, some of us were invited to celebrate Hannah at the beach house. An extra bonus was getting to see some other former student. I took some pictures, and Denise and Kimiko were kind to share some of their photos.
Inside the blue gate, family, friends come to celebrate Hannah.

It was wonderful to see everyone. Hannah, a graduating senior from Costa Mesa High School and has been accepted at Cal Poly, SLO where she will major in Chemistry. Loved and admired by so many, besides her glowing beauty, she is an exceptional talent in karate, drama, academics and most important, being a truly kind human being.
I am so proud and blessed to know Hannah!

So glad you had such a fine day with your former students. The best thing for a teacher is to see they are successful and even more important they are kind and honorable people.
