Thousands catapult tomatoes in 'world's largest food fight'

The 'Tomatina' tomato fight returned to the streets of Spain for its 75th year using trucks loaded with tens of thousands of pounds of tomatoes.

The event, held on the last Wednesday of August, was inspired by a food fight between local children in 1945 In 1945 some young boys decided to get a place among the retinue of a parade during the town festivities. The energy of these teens made that one participant fell down. The participant got mad and started to hit everything in his way. Casually nearby there was a vegetable stall that fell victim of the furious crowd: people started to pelt each other with tomatoes.in the town, located in a tomato-producing region.

Thousands of revellers hurled some 130 tons of over-ripe tomatoes at each other on Wednesday in the eastern Spanish town of Bunol, a little village near Valencia, Spain. Population around 10.000 people. Located 40 km from Valencia by bus, train or car.as the “Tomatina" festival celebrated its 75th edition after a two-year lapse due to the pandemic.

Not only messy, but you pay to be in this food fight. The Tomatina ticket price is only 12,00€, however, it can vary depending on other services you want. For example, you could pay up to 42,00€ for a package including the Tomatina ticket + bus from Valencia + party entrance.

Tomatina Dress code: wear clothes that you don't mind to throw away after the epic fight. Some people wear white t-shirts, some others wear old clothes. Swimsuit under your clothes is not a bad idea because you're gonna end up soaked by tomato & water hoses.

Once it begins, the battle is generally every man for himself. After an one hour the fighting ends. At this point, no more tomatoes can be thrown. The cleaning process involves the use of fire trucks to spray down the streets, with water provided from a Roman aqueduct.

"Torn" is excellent, Jacki. And the title fits perfectly to the collage. You are a master in collage - and many other things. One of them is creating wonderful blogs. I never get tired of looking forward to them and I'm never disappointed.

The tomato festival is a new for me. Pretty messy I would say. Tom is, of course, amazing. :-)

Thanks, John! I went back to see if I had a typo on "Torn", but when I looked I could see how it might look like Tom. Thanks for feedback.
