A common goal

Ukrainian soldiers who have lost limbs fighting against the Russian invasion of their country are finding healing and community in the game of soccer. Amputees, both civilians and soldiers, have been playing together at the Bannikov Stadium in the capital city of Kyiv every week. The sessions normally run for two hours and allow the amputees to practice skills, perform strength and conditioning exercises and play some games. The Ukrainian Football Federation organized the initiative a few months ago. “Here, these people find new friends and communication," says Dmytro Rzondkovsky, the coach of the Ukrainian amputee football team who also oversees the sessions in Kyiv. "I was really surprised by how much these people love life, football and sports. This love of life is something I’m still learning from them.”

To find the tidbits that I need for the 2GN2S (too good not to share) part of this daily, silly blog ... I have to zig-zag through the muck of major news stories, Middle East, Border Battle, Presidential Race, Chine, Taxes, Russia and oh so much more. Yuk! For my sanity and yours, you can skip that or go elsewhere for political depression. ;o)

Today's reading was upsetting to me. I just read and watched protesters hurl soup at the “Mona Lisa” painting in Paris, but it was protected from damage by its glass casing. The environmental group Riposte Alimentaire, which roughly translates to “Food Response”, said two protesters involved with its campaign were behind the vandalism. A video of the incident shows the demonstrators throwing orange-colored soup from bottles before ducking beneath a protective barrier to address onlookers. “What is more important: art or the right to a healthy and sustainable diet?” one is heard asking. This happened Sunday, January 28, 2024, around 10am. I hadn't heard until I read it today. The museum said it was lodging a complaint. There have been similar happenings, in other parts of the world, but most did not have the Mona Lisa's protection. Here in Los Angeles, we have had a huge 30 floor problem. Gigantic.

Taggers vandalized 30 floors of DTLA empty high-rise with graffiti; 2 arrested. drone video, here. Thirty floors of an unfinished luxury high-rise complex were painted with graffiti last week.

The site, which has been abandoned since 2019, is located in downtown Los Angeles. Police say over a dozen people entered the building, but only two were apprehended.

Construction on the billion-dollar development began in 2015, with the project aiming to transform DTLA from "an in-and-out destination to a place to dwell," according to the architecture firm CallisonRTKL's website.  The project was slated to have two 40-story towers. Work was stalled in 2019 after the developer reportedly faced financial woes. The property is now reportedly up for sale.

Well,  I do love graffiti, but not on someone else's property, and without their permission, but evidently, that's just me.

"graffiti":  me,  paint markers on newspaper.
