Patty Carroll’s ‘Anonymous Woman’

“Underdog”

The irony of the mannequin as “everywoman” is that the inanimate form doesn’t have much in common with real women at all. But for photographer Patty Carroll, that’s the point. “The mannequin is the ‘ideal woman’ who does not age, have wrinkles, fat, or any other human quality,” the Chicago artist says.

"Dishwasher Dull"

In her ongoing Anonymous Woman series , Carroll captures scenes of domestic dismay and disaster, like a woman hiding from a bug infestation in the bedroom or falling from her office chair, still gripping a phone. “(The mannequin) stands in for all of us who are obsessed with our homes, whether it is the décor or activities inside that make us ‘homemakers,'” the artist says. The he domestic scenes  are meticulously crafted.

“WFH”

In contrast, Carroll’s Anonymous Woman is often swallowed by her surroundings, simultaneously clumsy and completely overwhelmed. “I grew up in a place where one’s drapes matched the sofa or bedspreads, and life was supposed to be ideal with 2.5 perfect children, a beautiful mother, and a rich father,” Carroll says. “Of course, none of this was true, but it was the myth of the perfect life. I have continued to satirize this illusion with humor, color, and beauty in my pictures.”

“Panther”

“Panther” was recently purchased for the 21C Museum Hotels collection and inspired an artist-designed suite at the Kansas City hotel, which opens this year. And “Smokin'” will soon be on view at ALMA Art and Interiors in Chicago. See more on the artist’s website.

Easter weekend, Friday night through Sunday evening. A quick trip to heaven, being with SM, WW and the three Grandhunks. Wonder Woman is an terrific cook, she has learned to cook healthy and it's all so delicious. Superman is also a great cook, especially of his Mom, Hoda's specialties and family favorites. We didn't eat out all weekend unless you count the chicken strips and wings we got while bowling?

Yes, on Saturday we five (Jordan was working) went bowling at Sunset Casino, 72 lanes! The biggest I've ever seen. I hadn't bowled in forty years plus, but I did get a ball down the alley. Zack (GH#3) had hunted for a light ball with big finger holes for me. Granma has huge hands and he finally found one that just rubbed just a little. Eons ago I had my own ball with giant finger holes, I even had my own shoes and old fashioned ball! But I gave them in their old fashioned bag to Dulce. Now they have fancy wheeler bags, which I had never seen.

All of the Superheroes and Hunks had multiple strikes and spares, with Superman the leader. There was some teasing about I might use the kids bumpers or ever the roller, another thing I had never seen.

Wonder Woman is a pretty bowler, but strong. The men were really powerful, but I was happy that I remembered how to hold the ball and where to stand.

The guys wanted to play Blackjack, WW doesn't, so I sat in to watch & I learned enough not to.

These guys have always wanted to hold my hand and I am so thankful that they still want to.

Sunday after church and WW's famous two Indiana casseroles and side dishes, there was virtual bowling at home. They also played virtual golf.

The cute little angel among the hunks and SM, is
the mighty "Rocky" (Raquel), the love of  (GH#1) Jordan's life. She is mutually loved by the other giant hunks as a great sister-to be.

And, all to soon, it was time for Jordan to drive Jake and I to the airport for our 37 minute flight home to Orange County. A Great Weekend!
