41st Annual Summer Paper-making Workshop -

41st Summer Papermaking Workshop: August 16-20, 2024


At this intensive workshop only 14 spaces, you’ll learn all steps of Japanese papermaking plus decorative “Sekkazome” dyeing, Japanese stitch bookbinding and natural Indigo dyeing, from our master papermakers here at Awagami. Suitable for those serious about paper, this international workshop has been well received over the years.


41st Summer Papermaking Workshop Schedule:

Day 1: 8:30-16:30 - Orientation, Kozo (mulberry) Prep: Peeling, Cooking, Etc.

Day 2: 9:00-16:30 - Awagami Presentation, Cleaning & Hand Beating of Kozo18:30-20:30 - ‘Sekkazome’  Washi Dyeing

Day 3: 9:00-16:30 Washi Papermaking: Sheet Forming Demo & Practice

Day 4: 9:00-16:30 Washi Papermaking Sheet Forming, Pressing & Board Drying

18:30-20:30 Traditional Japanese Bookbinding

Day 5: 9:00-12:00 Washi Drying

12:30-13:30 Graduation Ceremony

13:30-15:30 Natural Indigo Dyeing

15:30 - Collecting / Packing of All Finished Papers
