2GN2S ...

On our way to the Superheroes in Nevada, we saw, on the left side of the road, the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility Works.

Reflecting the sun on three huge towers, GH#1 warned me not to look at it directly. I was so fascinated by the enormity of it and will try to get a photo on the way home.

The Ivanpah Solar Power Facility is actually made up of three separate plants which were built in phases between 2010 and 2013. Together, the three plants generate enough electricity to power more than 140,000 California homes at the peak demand hours of the day. Amazingly, the complex reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than  400,000 tons each year! The facility went on-line right after completion in 2013 and currently supplies power to PG&E & So.California Edison.

The plant is situated in the town of Ivanpah Dry Lake, California on about 3,500 acres. Like most solar thermal power facilities, the Ivanpah employs hundreds-of-thousands of mirrors to collect heat from the sun’s rays and focus it on solar receivers sitting atop towers.

It’s a tidy system that provides environmental benefits in the form of cleaner air, less water used because Ivanpah recycles all of the water it uses back into the system, and minimal impact to the land which requires little grading and therefore less damage to the surrounding landscape.

I couldn't wait to see it. Do you see it in the distance?
And one more shot as we drove by. There is something other-worldly about it, but fascinating?

Update ...

Last day at the Superheroes new home.

After showering and packing I took a walk out into the back yard. There was a nice breeze and so it felt like 88' but was 98'.

Tiny misters line the patio structures.

Inside, WonderWoman introduced the rumba ...

and both dogs had a fit! An intruder!

Too soon, it was time to go. Last minute hugs, WW on tiptoes. It was a wonderful three days!

Ready to cross the California border, we were waved through by the border agent.

Then, traffic all the way home! Thank you Grandhunk #1 for driving the many hours each way. Thank you Superman and WonderWoman!

You're all so kind and amazing!

A breathtaking 2+minute video, daring deed?here.

The new home of your daughter looks fantastic. I'm so glad you could spend such wonderful days there with family. That gives so much energy and makes one feeling years younger, don't you think?
I was also impressed by your pics of the Solar Power Facility. Thanks Jacki for such an interesting blog again.
