Tomoko Sato Carves Intricate Designs into Fruits & Vegetables
After a scorching summer, a more gentle season has set in. And it’s reflected in several common Japanese associations such as dokusho no aki (“fall, the season of reading”), geijutsu no aki (“fall, the season for arts”) and shokuyoku no aki (fall, the season for appetites). Combining the latter two is artist Tomoko Sato, who creates edible artwork by carving intricate designs into fruits and vegetables.

Born and raised in Fukui prefecture, Tomoko Sato is currently based in Kyoto. After discovering her passion for the art in 2004, Sato traveled to Thailand, which is considered the home of fruit carving, to hone her skills. And hone she did. She has now advanced to the level in which she teaches the art to others in both Kyoto, as well as her hometown of Fukui, while producing her own artistic projects.
You can sign up for classes, as well as see more of her work, on her website. You can also keep up with the artist on Twitter.

These vegetables are carved with so much creativity and Skills. Excellent. As I already said, you find such interesting stories for each blog post.
Only 8 days left to the magic number of 3000 posts.
Have a wonderful evening dear Jacki.
Nice post, Jacki.
I loved the fish story. What a beautiful difference between when he was rescued and the end of the video, and the robot was also amazing. (But I wouldn't want to own one!)
The carved veggies where also beautiful. I don't know where you find all this 'eye candy' but I am glad you do.
Not only is a superstar but so is the artist. :-)
Thanks so much, Elenor.
What is kind of amazing, I start most days with no idea what the features will be? I do collect smiles all the time, and moved them into a used file when published, so as not to repeat. And, with both, some days I get lucky.
Thanks Carrol At first watching the fish story, I didn't think I would use it. But as it went on I realized I had a jewel! You help so much with the smiles. And some days I get lucky with other stuff?
Awww, thanks, John!
