I am hunting an ancient blog, not this one, but I thought this
was good enough to share again, since written in 2012, Day 47!

My daughter was an only child.

But, she has brothers and sisters.

Mutually adopted, this family
of five grew up together.

Big sister Lisa, a caring guardian, even then.

Three purple belt sisters at Japan Expo Tournament.

There are,  in this world,
special, good people who fly into our lives
and if we are very lucky,
they stay for a long, long time.

(They are all in their 50's now, and still close)

Smaller Than a Grain of Rice —Yet Essential for Hearing
🦴
The smallest bone in the human body is the stapes, a tiny stirrup-shaped bone located deep inside your middle ear. Measuring only about 2.5–3.5 millimeters in length and weighing just a few milligrams, it's often smaller than a single grain of rice.
Despite its tiny size, the stapes has a huge responsibility. It works alongside two other middle ear bones—the malleus (hammer) and incus (anvil)—to transmit sound vibrations from your eardrum to the inner ear. These vibrations are then converted into electrical signals that your brain interprets as sound. Without the stapes, hearing would be dramatically reduced.
The stapes is also the smallest and lightest bone in the entire human skeleton. Its unique shape resembles a horse's stirrup, which is how it got its name. Because it plays such a crucial role in hearing, conditions affecting the stapes, such as otosclerosis (abnormal bone growth), can lead to hearing loss and may require surgery to restore hearing.
It's incredible to think that one of the most important parts of our hearing system is a bone so small it can sit beside a grain of rice on your fingertip. Tiny bone. Massive job.

Great pictures of Erin & her Suzuki siblings! I still remember sweet Erin at 5 years old coming up to me to offer me a McDonaldland cookie & her friendship. We always said we'd be best friends forever- we really meant it! & how lucky are we to have our moms become best friends too! Thank you for accepting us as family and treating us so special. You are one of a kind & truly Amazing!!
