 When I taught collage ...

I used primarily torn paper, (still do) instead of the precise edge of scissors. Somehow it was passed around that I didn't allow scissors? One person was asked why she didn't use scissors and she replied that she wasn't allowed? Now I don't remember ever making that rule, but I do remember feeling that the results would be freer and I stand by that still. Here is a step-by-step on 6x6" black Bainbridge poster board from that time period, 2018.

A yummy torn piece of junk mail. I like it already.

step 1

Polka dots are fun & I love the grey that the dots became.

step 2

 More grey,  torn junk mail.

step 3

Tissue dot, torn scrap & a mysterious olive scrap.

step 4,5 & 6

Vertical text needed to cover a weak area.

step 7

Another torn scrap to cover up what, for me, wasn't working.
A gluestick, torn junk mail and the happy camper is done.

final

The final art of step 8 is digitized, just because.

There is good out there!

Rodney started mowing lawns for free in college while studying computer science. As he was leaving class one day, he noticed an older man struggling to mow his yard and offered to help. ”That moment changed my life forever,” said Rodney. Now, Rodney has his own non-profit, and more than 4,000 kids, including Kyler, have signed up for the 50-yard challenge.
This week, Rodney traveled to Lewiston, Idaho, to meet Kyler and congratulate him on finishing the challenge. As part of marking the incredible moment, Rodney gave Kyler a brand-new lawnmower, weed eater, and leaf blower. Every kid who completes the challenge gets new equipment to start their own business.
