Brotherly Love

These lion brothers, one with only three legs, made a mile-long journey across the crocodile-infested waters of the Kazinga Channel in Uganda. And they did it all for love! Their journey is a historic one, say the researchers who’ve watched the brothers for years: It's the longest swim by lions ever documentedJacob and Tubi live in Uganda's Queen Elizabeth National Park and recently survived a dangerous run-in with other male lions competing for females. Running out of options and wary of poachers who could be lurking nearby, the brothers braved the channel. It took them three tries, and in at least one of their attempts, the brothers turned back after spotting what appeared to be a crocodile tailing them through the water. Finally, in a 45-minute crossing, the lions made it to the other side of the park in search of female affection. For lions, brotherly (or sisterly!) love can be lifesaving: Lions of the same sex can build strong, lifelong relationships that, when they form groups of two or more lions, can improve their chances of survival. Such is the case with Jacob and Tibu, who remain devoted to each other even while they search for mates. Best of luck, fellas — may your future cubs be as strong as you are.

Jacki, I especially love the last smile. This special moment when you look at the flower or at a person you love, .... is your world and so it's your life.
Really beautiful.
