Day 947: All day Saturday ...

Denim,  i-pad digital collage

I am so looking forward to an all day workshop in Seal Beach, CA.
We will learn the ins and outs of Pro-Create on the i-pad.
Judy, our host and teacher is a very smart & wonderful artist …
so we will be in good and patient hands.

self-portrait collage by Judy, from pieces of her  watercolors

As mentioned 458 times over the past 947 days of this blog …
I mainly work on my i-pad when on Grandma duty and ...
separated from my significant other, my handsome MacPro.
Until just recently, I used the app Sketch Club and loved it.
It was a Photoshop wanna-be and I was comfortable with it.
They recently updated, and morphed it into a unusable entity,
in my opinion, so I am off to learn another app.
You'll no doubt hear and see how that goes later on.

Please have a great weekend, you deserve it!

Day 946: Sometimes you just get lucky ...

8" square for Thomas, acrylic, collage & china marker

A little over a year ago, I got lucky.
Washington artist John Arbuckle asked me if
I would be part of a small round-robin journal group.
We had never met at that time,
but I had closely followed his wonderful work & his blog.
I was flattered beyond belief but also intimidated.
All five artists were truly amazing.
So for six months we worked on six journals, mentioned here.
And, at different stages mentioned here,
here, here, here, and here.
That project finished, John started seven of us on a new venture.
Each month we make a square which folds inward,
small, compact, easy to mail,  folded in, it looks like this …

I just mailed mine to Thomas LaBadia today …

So in five more months, we will each have 7 squares
that will be joined to make a very unique journal.
I am not sure how yet, but John knows.
And I trust John!

Day 945: Visiting the Cabana's ...

12 junk mail collage

Ever been to an outdoor art gallery?
Me either, until today.
The City of Mission Viejo is a really beautiful city.

The grounds of the Norman P. Murray Center
has a beautiful outdoor venue called The Cabana's.

24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, CA 92692

Used for social and symphony events, receptions and such.
Last September in this blog, I asked for your help.

12 more junk mail collage

I was honored to be asked to show my work.
So I showed you the artwork in consideration for …
the five Cabana's at Mission Viejo.
The five 30 x 30" works chosen were ...

installed two weeks ago and will be up for awhile.

A gentleman was working on his laptop beneath this
piece so I only took one shot.

I am flattered, lucky and a very happy camper!
Thank you Dru Maurer!

Day 944: Pardon the technical difficulties ...

Tustin,  multiple photos digitized

Technical camera & SDHC card malfunctions,
so even though I went to the beautiful
Mission Viejo outdoor Cabana gallery today,
and I took lots of photos, I will have to go again.
Stay tuned?

Day 943: Weary warriors and the art of recharging.

"Grey",  digital collage

Weary warriors, I call them.
Because we are all a bit tired from the past few days  …
shown here, here, here, here, here and here.
Yet we showed up to train again today, and more will tonight.
Demura Sensei had told our class many years ago …
that the "real karate students turn up to train after the big day.
The tournament, awards, attention done, they show up.
They are the champions."

Some of Sensei's students visit Sensei before traveling home.

Now we recharge.

Day 942: the 44th annual ...

"Action"  …  acrylic composition

After the big (600 people) banquet last night,
and up until the early hours …

tournament day came early!

Some of Canada's team referees.

90 referees met for directions from director, Dave Hines.

Michelle and Dave, two of the charting team who do
the heroic work making the tournament work!

Nisei Week Queen and princesses on hand ...
to present medals in each ring, a really special treat.

Working, so only a few competition photos ...

 and after shots.

Demura Sensei gave each official a beautiful wood plaque,
carved with his own calligraphy, "Kibou" …
meaning "Hope for the future."
A great day for all.

Thank you Demura Sensei.
