How 10 Famous Artists Would Plate Thanksgiving

Piet Mondrian

In this fun series of photos titled
Thanksgiving Special, San Francisco-based artist Hannah Rothstein imagines Thanksgiving dinners as plated by famous artists throughout history. Gravy, corn, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce, and even the plate itself is used as a medium for edible artworks in the style of Jackson Pollock, Cindy Sherman, Georges Seurat, and Vincent van Gogh. I hope you and your family and friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving. None of us have to look beyond the news to know how blessed we are. Shelter, food, water, electricity, safety denied to too many.

A story I probably shouldn't admit to, but I will. Recently I had lunch with good friends  Talking over the meal, we got on the subject of cooking for Thanksgiving.

I mentioned that I cooked my first turkey when we were new teachers in Riverside, CA. My Dad's brother, Uncle Mac and Aunt Alva came down from Stockton, and my Dad were all there. I don't remember any other guests, but then that was 1965. Being an amateur cook, I didn't know there was a bag of goodies inside the turkey? So I found it just before the carving ceremonies began.

Everyone had a big laugh.
