How cool is this???

A mayor makes a house call

Simaray Sanzo needed a place to live — and fast. The Denver migrant shelter where she'd been staying with her husband and their 6-year-old son Santi couldn't house them much longer, so she asked her neighbors for help on Facebook. A woman named Courtney responded. When Simaray and her family met Courtney and her husband, they were surprised by how much they had in common: Mike, Courtney's husband, spoke Spanish. They had sons who liked to play the same sports as Santi. And sitting down for meals as a family every week was a must. It was a surprise when, mid-meal, Courtney's husband revealed he was Mike Johnston, Denver's mayor. Connecting with one of the city's foremost leaders helped the Sanzos settle into their new home much more quickly. They were able to find an apartment and share it with Simaray's sister, and the Johnstons helped them raise enough money to cover rent for a month when they were short. Simaray and Courtney even took Santi to the hospital together for an ear infection. The Sanzos have work permits, which the Johnstons helped them apply for, and though their jobs keep them apart more often than they'd like, the families still regularly meet to share a meal.

Flashback to August 2016.

I used to do quite a few demonstrations for art leagues and such. This picture was from the Torrance Art League in 2016.  I went there and demonstrated collage on canvas and provided a canvas for their fund raising raffle. At the time, I did know this kind ladies name, but it eight years it has vanished? Anyway, the reason I am including this, is that Susan or Sandy (I think?) emailed me and said she was so excited, that she went home and tried the techniques, and asked if I would want to see her effort?

Of course I replied immediately, Yes, YES!  Here it is.

It's amazing how often the artist's first attempt at a face seems to resemble their own, without them realizing. I guess it's the face we see most?  Great work, right?

Hi Jacki,

Loved the video. Why I was winded just watching it! And you were so correct about the lovely collage done after your demo. It definitely
looked like the beautiful woman. Thank you, as usual, for a bright spot in my day.

The best thing to happen to a teacher is to have such talented students. Congratulations, Jacki!
