Concentric Ceramic Vessel Sculptures

100 years ago I had a ceramic studio and sold my efforts to designers for model homes, customers and to department stores for a few years. I mention this because to throw on the wheel takes skill and for me, I had to be centered to be able to center the clay. When I was not, I worked on hand built. On my best day, I was never near Mathew Chamber's skill. These vessels are unbelievable.

From his studio in St. Lawrence on the Isle of Wight, Mathew Chambers pushes the boundaries of the medium. The artist is known for nesting meticulously scaled forms inside slightly larger pieces, all of which are thrown on a wheel. Hypnotic and seemingly endless, the dynamic works appear like vast portals that descend into relatively small vessels.

For his most recent pieces though, Chambers has switched his focus from inner to outer, as the aligned forms shift in position to swell outward and upward. Each sculpture is an opportunity to explore a particular pattern, he adds, and now, that process involves extrapolating motifs and the limits of the spherical shapes.

After 18 months of back-to-back exhibitions, Chambers is now slowing down and returning to his studio to experiment and try new methods. His works will be on view with Cavaliero Finn at Collect Art Fair in February 2025, and until then, find more of his sculptures on his website and Instagram

Wednesday WonderWoman drove us to Lake Havasu, about a two hour drive from Henderson.

She and Superman have a second home there and she needed to check on something. We didn't stay long, but went to have lunch at

Not a glamorous venue, but great food and popular in season.

WW brought her pumpkins from Halloween and we pulled off the road to leave a banquet for the local resident wildlife ...

On the way the tiny town of Oatman ...

This was the town greeter and he saw us off, or maybe checking to see if we had any more feed? Open road for a mile or two ...

The burros are not afraid of the cars, it was like a check point to see if we had any leftovers? We did.

I fed from the car, WW got out to see the baby. So we were off for the two hour drive back to Henderson. A fun day. Thanks WW!
