Friday night was indeed a really special night.

At Mckinney Theater

28000 Marguerite Pkwy, Mission Viejo

Battling SoCal Friday evening traffic, a group sat patiently 

in the beautiful Saddleback College theater.

Demura Sensei and some arrived early.

We were here to see the first screening of ...

William Christopher Ford,  Sensei at his own Kaizen Dojo in Torrance, and his collaborators have made a stunning short film, 

 The Last Dojo. 

WC Ford has a long friendship with Demura Sensei ...

 

Chris told us he had directed the film as a love letter

to Demura Sensei and his students. 

He did just that, a wonderful tribute.

Prior to the screening William Christopher Ford spoke about his respect for Demura Sensei and how the film came into being.

After the screening, there was a panel of the film makers & Sensei.

Demura Sensei spoke of how he started in Karate-do, coming to the US in 1965 and the 1968 opening of the dojo featured in the film.

Demura Sensei brought flowers for his long time friend, Mrs. Ford, WC Ford's Mother. And, for his Sister, Kinue Demura for her help.

The audience was invited to ask the panel questions which ranged from history, training, beliefs, benefits of Karate-do and more,

The filmmakers and Demura Sensei met the audience in the lobby for pictures if they chose. They did.

 

A really wonderful evening. Can you tell?

William Christopher Ford is a great young man. Now 52, 

I still think of him as the talented teenager I used to try to 

compete against, what seems like 100 years ago. 

A young man of character, strong work ethic, as well as 

amazing talents. You know the kind where you watch 

and say to yourself, Wow!

Chris is a Sensei at his own Kaizen Dojo in Torrance and 

has been in movies and more. Lately he has been directing. 

He and his collaborators have made a stunning short film, 

The Last Dojo. Chris asked me to view the movie before 

release, in order to identify the students featured in the film.

I did. It is wonderful. 

Chris told me he had made it as a love story 

to Demura Sensei and his students. 

He did just that, a wonderful tribute.

I cried, but then I'm ancient and sentimental.

I think anyone, even without martial arts interests

will love this beautiful movie. 

Students will be touched deeply.

There will be a free showing at Mckinney Theater
