Last year I did a blog (here) that featured the great American artist, Norman Rockwell. In the blog, one  print in particular, caught some attention.

"Shiner", by Norman Rockwell.

Several good friends and karate-ka, like Jim Eyre and Kevin Graves, liked the above art?  And Jim asked how old I was in the above art? I replied 9. ;o)

In truth, I never had a black eye until I was thirty. That's the year I started learning karate and came home from class one day with a beauty. I was so proud of that eye. It was delivered by Makoto-san, a hero to me. It sounds stupid, but it was the truth. In fact, I wished I could be in a tournament with it. I just thought it would look "cool" to already have a "shiner"? I had one more later in a tournament.

This print by Norman Rockwell really is fun! Thanks for letting us know about your shiner and what you were thinking about it.
