Good to know!

To help the bees during the summer months there are fewer flowers and other food sources for the bees. Water is also scarce and so many bees drown as they try to drink from the pools.

Grate an apple and add some water to a bowl.

The bees will be able to get the sugars from the fruit and drink the water and not drown as they can stand on the pieces of fruit. Our bee populations are threatened, we give them all the support we can.

Green roofs at car parks in Japan provide crucial habitats for bees and other pollinators, essential for biodiversity.

   Another Family Birthday...

"Uncle Skete": old photo, digital collage.

When I think of Uncle Skete, I smile. I really do.
His real name was Russel, but I called him Uncle Skete? He was third born in a family of 10 children. He began farming as a very young boy.

His Dad gave him young horses to break and
use as his own. He drove a horse/buggy 7 miles
to Lebanon High School each day.

Uncle Skete and Aunt Fern were sweethearts
for many years before marrying in 1925.

Aunt Fern finished her first year of teaching
and they were married the next day.
She went on to be a Principal and poet.

They had one daughter, my cousin, Katha.
There were married over 50 years.

Personally, when I think of Uncle Skete,
I can hear his laugh as I picture him in his chair ...

after a long day working his farm.

Special memories of a wonderful man.
Today is his birthday.

Happy Birthday, Uncle Skete!

Why do cats hate closed doors?

If you've ever witnessed a cat in front of a closed door, you might notice how much they seem to be annoyed by it. They might poke a furry arm under the crack, begin to paw at the door or even attack it while letting out agitated meows. But why do cats seem to hate closed doors so much?

Both evolution and pet owners themselves play a role, experts say.  Part of it is that cats are curious and have a fear of missing out (FOMO), said Dr. Karen Sueda, a board-certified veterinary behaviorist. "It is a little bit of FOMO," Sueda told Live Science. "The FOMO of like, 'I don't know what's on the other side, and I want to go see and figure it out.'"

Cats are naturally curious creatures, and they like to keep an eye on everything happening in their territory, which includes their owner's house. This control helps keep them alive in the wild, but it can lead to behaviors we might interpret as odd, like attacking a door.

"Cats like to control access to spaces and vital basic needs and territory," cat behavior consultant Ingrid Johnson told Live Science. "It doesn't make them mean. It doesn't make them anything other than a species that is both predator and prey that has to hunt to survive but also has to feel safe and secure in their environment."

Today is Aunt Vonda's birthday.

A special lady to so many of us. We loved her so, and you would have loved her too.

and she followed.

Aunt Vona, San Diego, Ca.
She lost her one true love, and never remarried.
After, she gave her love to family, friends and students.
Aunt Vonda, like her sisters, was a great teacher.

From a one room school house to modern classrooms.A teacher who played ball with the kids at recess. I am lucky to have all of her school photos from over the years.

She saved them & the names of every student she ever taught. Later, after retiring, she would visit her nieces.

The kind of Aunt who knew where you kept your silverware. Not just at my house, but at all the cousins.

Aunt Vonda was, in my opinion, one of God's two best creations.

I admired her in more ways that I can ever count.
But one was the day she danced with Daffy Duck.

Aunt Vonda would fly out each year from Indiana
to join us for the young WonderWoman's birthday.
On one occasion, we went shopping at the Brea Mall. We were in the food court deciding what to eat. Suddenly loud music came over the speakers, and ...
a big, human-size Daffy Duck appeared! He moved through the big crowd and danced straight up to Aunt Vonda!

He extended his hand or wing I guess?

And Aunt Vonda, without missing a beat, she
took his hand/wing & they danced off into the food court! On and on, it was as if they did that every day.

Daffy had found a soul mate.
Everyone applauded.
A special day & a great memory.

Happy Birthday, Aunt Vonda,
