Day 1571: A step-by-step, kombucha & ramen, oh my!

postcard: ink, watercolor & junk mail collage

A step by step, kombushcha & ramen, oh my!
I probably could have split this into three posts?
Or omitted B or C sections, but maybe you can edit for me?

A.

A postcard step-by-step ...

step 1.

a quick sketch on 4x6" postcard using brush & ink.

step 2

Adding watercolor quickly & sparingly.

step 3

Adding junk mail for collage ...

step 4

not everywhere, but selectively.

step 5

Reverse side is ready for address & postage,
then off to Neptune, New Jersey!

 B.

I am learning to make Kombucha!
"Kombucha is fermented, lightly effervescent sweetened
black or green tea drink  commonly intended as functional pro-biotic beverages with supposed health benefits." Wikipedia

some commercial Kombucha
You can (& I have) purchase it commercially.
It is expensive & possibly the qualities vary.
WonderWoman's friend Tami teaches classes  ...
& I went on Wednesday.
Thursday I made my first batch of Kombucha.

And I took photos to document the process.
Dissolving organic raw sugar in hot water ...
adding green & black organic tea & steep.

When the tea is room temperature, I added the SCOBY.
An acronym for symbiotic colony of bacteria & yeast.
It is the mother culture required to make kombucha tea,
like the yeast starter in making bread.

left insert: SCOBY, and at bottom on right

So now SCOBY is working for up to 15 days ...

left shows SCOBY today, near top

after which I will add organic frozen berries to flavor the tea.
I am just learning, and next to cure veggies!

 C.

My favorite was in the top ten, so I am sharing their review:
.

Shin Sen Gumi Hakata Ramen
Founded in Los Angeles, this chain has two ramen shops in O.C. The gritty Fountain Valley branch feels more like vintage Japan, while the sparkling new Irvine branch comes across rather sterile. The soup is delicious either way.
The Hakata-style tonkotsu is made from Berkshire pork,
cooked more than 15 hours.
They let you control the firmness of the noodles
as well as the thickness of the soup.

Wishing you a great weekend,
whatever you are up to ... "in your neck of the woods".

A smile for Sunday ...

Day 805: Eastside & Geraniums!

"Blush", acrylic & collage on canvas

What happened today? Today was Eastside.
A group of eight artists who meet monthly and share skills.
Today we were half, two in Europe, two unable to attend.
So, we four met at Erin's beautiful home and garden ...
to paint seasonal or whatever, on canvas.
If you go to Erin's blog here, you can see more.

Erin gave me some geranium napkins since ...
she knows I love collage and ...
since evidently, I am a geranium.
And, I went overboard. Never known for moderation.

A future geranium haired lady in progress ...

not done, but getting there ...

Another fun day.
Oh, and on the way home ...
I was next to a shiny new Ferrari!

and then it was ... gone.

I thought you'd want to know.

Throw (way) back Thursday ...

Costa Mesa Dojo, 199?

A smile for Thursday ...

sorry, but it is funny, right?

Day 383: Therapy Time!

Finally!
Vacation, post-vacation, demo's, classes,
house and grand-dog-sitting, a tournament ...
I am almost back to normal before the next surge.

To get me there, my therapy = I collage in my journal.
This is the cover (so far) of my newest journal, #59!
Given in the Catalyst Mixed Media class August 3rd ...
a quality Strathmore journal, 5 x 8", great paper!

So yesterday I started in on my therapy session ...

I just started tearing, glue-sticking and got
happier and happier!

I'd only planned to do one or two, but ...

I have never mastered moderation!

I can't explain how this works for me ...
I just know that it does.

Day 269: Thank you Amelia ...

If you saw yesterday's blog ...

the above 18x24" digital collage ...
was the front-runner,

over this "busy" variation.
Then I created & scanned more layers ...

and ...

and ...

and ...

and came up with ...

fun to do, but for me, it's still too busy.

So this is my final choice.
I am happy.

Day 268: Working on a hero ...

My mom was a pilot.
Her flight instructor at Purdue University was ...

google images

How cool is that?
Today I have been working on a digital collage...
 for an upcoming show.

I scanned
some of the
papers and
patterns
I wanted
to use ...
in
building
my digital
collage
layers.

I am not finished, but I thought ...
I could show you how it is progressing?

This was my first save. I like it.
The thing about Photoshop ...
lacking moderation, I keep going ...

See what I mean?
Still not done, but that's what it looks like at bedtime.
And that's all for this post.
