Day 2491: Do you know of the Guerrilla Gardeners?

Opus13: junk mail collage on Fabriano card.

I was minding my own business,
trying to get organized, entering receipts,
wondering what today's blog might be?
You know, catch up stuff.
Sometimes I listen to music.
But after the NBA playoff game
and after Jeopardy (my addiction)
I put on PBS to listen to while I worked,
and learned about ... guerrilla gardeners!

Have you heard of them?
I hadn't. New to me and I was so impressed.
I googled and found a TED talk here,
and the Wikipedia definition here.

Apparently originally an Australian TV show,
our local PBS station featured some local LA crusaders
who find untended areas of urban blight,
meet there late at night, since it is illegal.
They clean up and improve the area with plantings,
anonymously.
With all the horrors in the news,
I found it inspiring that people give of themselves
to improve an area for the benefit of all.

...

Thanks for visiting, wishing you a lovely Wednesday.

Day 2440: Just another postcard.

landscape: junk mail collage, ink & digital.

Just another postcard.
A 4 x 6 Strathmore postcard, junk mail, glue stick & brayer.

step 1-3

The hardest part of blog step-by-step's (that many of you have
said you like) is me remembering to stop and take a photo!
This was has three scraps of paper down before I remembered.
(* The upper scrap is a magazine page sanded)

step 4 & 5

More brown tissue, when I decided to make it a quasi-landscape.

step 6 - 11

I added a fuzzy photo of trees on mulberry paper, middle right.
Then added strips of torn text for more trees on right.
(*I am careful to use parts of the lettering, because it would be distracting to the design if you eye tried to read real words. )

step 12

Used a fine marker to suggest land, hills etc..

step 13

Finishing with one more black tree, and a larger line on the horizon.
I resisted adding a pop of color, because I liked the subtle colors.

address side

As usual, I do a small collage on the address side.
Ready to stamp & mail.
(*I covered the address for the recipients privacy.)
Just another postcard.

Wishing you a Happy Monday!
Thanks for stopping by.

"A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet
must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.
What one can be, one must be". -Abraham Maslow, psychologist

As you may have noticed, I love old photos.

I also love Frida Kahlo, and have a collection here.

And, I think this photo is perfect.
To me, a young, direct, determined Frida.

But, I wanted to play, leaving the original untouched.

This is one of my favorites.

In the "did you know" department.
Did you know you can watch explore livecam from Alaska?
Thanks to Austin Kleon, I went here and watched live,
a brown bear at Brooks Falls - Katmai National Park, Alaska.

I watched him rest then look around, the he got up and
I thought I'd lost him. But the livecam followed him into the water!

The livecam followed and even zoomed in as he went for lunch.
I wanted to catch him catching his lunch, but I took a call
and when I went back the livecam was tracking him in the hills,
every so often you could see him moving through the bushes.
I wasn't alone, 1644 were watching too.

Then I went to Walrus Beach, Alaska
and am listening to the soft rapids live as I write.

They have another called meditation, featuring animals along
with the sounds of wind, birds, water and occasional grunts.
I'm betting this could lower blood pressure considerably.

I only captured a few of the stunning shots.
I went back to check on my bear, and he (or a friend?)
was water-side again as if waiting for a delivery.

Intently scanning the water, he gave up a few minutes later
and decided to go to the source.

I left him to his prospective meal, and went to make my lunch.
I did bookmark the site. I think it's amazing to live in this age where you can visit Alaska live, at the click of a key.
Just sayin'

4 hours layer I decided to check in, he's in the water, but seems
to be relaxed and enjoying the turbulence as a Jacuzzi?
I guess I should warm, this may be addictive.

Did you know?

British Museum to offer pencils & paper ...

The British Museum curators hope to encourage the visiting public to look more closely at its objects, and will offer pencils and sketchbooks at a major exhibition for the first time. Staff at the museum said they had noticed a significant increase in art students and members of the public wanting to draw in its galleries, despite the proliferation of mobile phone cameras.
