Heartbeat

He released a swan hooked to a net:
"When I was holding him, I felt his heart beating.
He just relaxed and wrapped my neck with his.
It's a precious moment when you see an animal trusts you completely.”

Demura Sensei's Costa Mesa- Newport Dojo Demo

In a small village in the Philippines, a 9-year-old boy took it upon himself to build a library—not with money or machines, but with determination and recycled materials. Using discarded wood, scrap metal, and plastic sheets, he pieced together a simple yet powerful space where children in his community could gather and read. With many homes lacking books and some families struggling to afford school supplies, the library quickly became a haven of curiosity and learning.
He collected books from neighbors, teachers, and small donations, organizing them by subject and age group. From picture books to simple science texts, every title found a home on makeshift shelves made from crates and boxes. Children from nearby homes began to visit regularly, not just to read, but to borrow, learn, and share. Some even contributed their own well-loved stories to the growing collection.
The boy’s goal was simple: he wanted every child in his village to have the chance to read, dream, and imagine a future beyond their circumstances. His initiative has since drawn attention from educators and local leaders, but at its heart, the library remains what it always was—
an act of care by one child, opening doors for many others.

Such a great collage, Jacki!
The picture from 2004 is so nice. I just ask myself how everybody in this photo looks now and what they are doing. 22 years seems long, but for me it could have been yesterday. I never imagined, when I was a child, there would be a time after the year 2000. Strange, isn't it?
The story of the 9-year-old boy is so heart warming and gives hope. We need to learn humanity from kids.

Thanks again Elenor, for your kindness in commenting. I really do appreciate you. Yes, when I look at that photo it seems fairly recent, but when I look in the mirror I realize maybe it has been 22 years?
