Handmade Gifting

I am lucky to have a wonderful artist, friend, Terry Garrett,  of I can't remember how many years now, but the kind of friend who has residence in my heart. And I am so behind in writing that he will be my first art project and a letter. I will try to take some photos along the way, double-dipping in a way? 8am here we go ...

Since not all the way awake, so I sorted some of my choice papers into 3 baskets by approximate size and as a warm up.

I chose an earlier completed collage and acrylic for background.

I drew a quick sketch of Terry on a 1-1/4"x3-1/2" sketchbook.

Choosing papers from the basket I started on his face.

I used an ink brush for features and some film shots that I felt suited Terry's demeanor.

A simple black frame and it was finished.

Wrapped and a handmade card and long overdue letter.

I had the original frame box, so taped it up like a mummy ready to go to Albuquerque. I hope Terry likes it.

Spinifex Pigeon

In Australia’s arid interior, this tough little bird makes its home among spinifex grasses and red desert stones, thriving where shade is scarce and heat is relentless. It rarely needs to drink, surviving on moisture from seeds and hardy plants. When alarmed, it runs swiftly rather than flies, weaving through thorny clumps with effortless agility — a dry-country specialist built for endurance in the harshest sun.

Thanks, Jacki for sharing your step by step. You know, how much I love them. For me it's always a miracle to get inspired by a little piece of paper. The brain starts seeing possibilities and finally a picture occurs.

Yes, I agree, Elenor. There are magic moments sometimes when you might think you are getting help from somewhere? I do love collage. Have a great week!!
