My Four Aunts!

Aunt Martha, Aunt Fern, Aunt Pauline, Aunt Vonda all served as "Grey Ladies"

Several of your kind readers have said you like the family stories, so here is a short one. As far back I can remember, Aunt Martha, Aunt Fern, Aunt Pauline, and Aunt Vonda served as "Grey Ladies" at Whitham Hospital, in Lebanon, Indiana. Their uniform was grey, thus the title. Their job was to relieve the nurses of the more menial tasks and general public relations with the patients and families. Deliver the flowers, cheerful chatter etc. All of that was easy for my Mom's four older sisters. All were teacher, my Aunt Fern was a school Principal. They all lived locally and knew most everyone in town.

They did this job voluntarily, even while they were still teaching school and continued on when they retired. I have forgotten how many years they served in this capacity, but maybe twenty+ years? This picture was in the newspaper that would have explained that. I still have it somewhere?

Our family was very proud of them and how they inspired being of service and helping others into our way of thinking.

Today, Sunday, the Sakai family and I had lunch together at ...

416 E 1st St Tustin, CA 92780 • (714) 665-2262

A local favorite, with consistently great food. I have been a patron for 25 years, and it is my go-to restaurant to take guests.

Though not a fancy venue, the food is fantastic.

Mixed greens

chicken, saffron rice

beef &lamb

The Sakai's particularly liked their famous cherry rice and lentil rice. We all brought home leftovers, and I have been nibbling on mine as I write to you.
