2GN2S

How I spent a quiet Sunday afternoon.

I am cleaning & sorting through years of art supplies and stuff. Sorting, more than cleaning. Some things trigger a blog story.

When I was eight, it was decided that I should be in boarding school. Not as a punishment, but my Mom was a single Mom and worked nights as a waitress. I was enrolled in San Marino School for Girls. At that time, I don't think kids were asked their opinion. I was used to adapting, but my house mother was a mean lady and would yell at me, I can't remember why, but I told my Mom and when she took me back on Sunday evening, she stayed outside the door to listen, and the lady started yelling at me. My Mom came in and got me and we left. The next thing I was at Bullock's Wilshire getting uniforms for Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. It was a beautiful former hotel, on the mountain overlooking the Rose Bowl. My roommate, Deidre and I shared a lovely room with private bath and closet. We wore a uniform for school, but dressed for dinner. The Dominican nuns were strict but kind, and I liked it there. I had no way of knowing that my Mom had mentioned to her boss, Mrs. Hill of Robert Hill's Chef Inn in Pasadena, that she had to find a new, better school for her daughter. I guess Mrs. Hill felt sorry for her and arranged for me to be accepted at the elite school. And, unknown to me, she also arranged for my uniforms, Mrs. Hill was an elegant lady, I only met her once. She had just returned from a trip to Europe where she had an audience with Pope Pius XII.  She gave me this tiny sterling rosary on a chain. The chain is missing, but isn't it beautiful?

It's been hiding out with other past valuables

I feel there may be more blog stories as I clean and sort, mainly sort.

(btw: I can recomend Erik Satie's music, here as lovely background)
