I was sorting through some art files this morning, and thinking of my dear Aunt Martha on her birthday. I came across this one, which brought up a quick story.

(You may have noticed a difference in spacing and format? Evidently a ghost has taken residence in my Mac Pro laptop! He has been tinkering for a while now and I try to fix the mistakes but he either deletes or returns to the original error. Today I am not fighting it, you'll get what I see? Soon, I hope to replace this inhabited model with a new unoccupied one.)

When I was in college I lived on campus in Wood Hall. I pledged a sorority as a freshman, but none of the sororities had houses yet, instead we had suites, ours was in Wood Hall. (They have beautiful houses now.) None of this is important to the story, but I am just glad the brain cell are chugging away. Anyway, holidays and many weekends I went to Aunt Martha's house, she always seemed glad to have me.

Now the story. I brought home a big watercolor of two ladies for Aunt Martha. She liked it so much she framed it and hung it in the living room. As was my habit then and sometimes now, I left the faces blank to concentrate on the composition. Sometimes I would then add facial features, but on this particular one the faces were still blank.

When Butch, an eight year old, young man from next door came over, he studied the painting for a long time. He finally said, "Oh! Blind Ladies."

"It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are."            ee cummings (wanted credit)

Happy Birthday Aunt Martha, thank you for helping me get to be me, I don't know where I would have been without you and Aunt Vonda.

It's Carrol here. But hopefully even though it will say anonymous until my son helps me be me, that you know who is posting just by my comments. Wow! is the short comment on this blog. The art is aways a delight, the stories about your family always delight. But the video: "Man" was superb. I am asking both of my children to watch it. And the funnies at the end made me laugh. The thought about money and time is so true, and makes one pause, and consider values and direction. Thank you, dear Jacki.

Thank you dear Carrol, I am loving picturing you and Stan on this glorious and so well-deserved trip. I was in Budapest in 1990 (35 years ago??) with the USA Jr.Team as the female coach, and we made a point of having the juniors see this beautiful city. We went to the Danube to see the shoes late in the evening, and the effect was stunning. Travel always provides great memories.

Life would be much more difficult without persons like your Aunt Martha or aunt Vonda. Don't we all need somebody who cares for us and sees what we need right now - no matter how old we are? That's real luck and then we are rich.
Jacki, wishing you too a happy and healthy November.

Thank you, Elenor. The term angel is so totally appropriate for both Aunt Martha and Aunt Vonda. They are surely two if God's best creations. I miss them both so much, and often talk to them still. Have a wonderful, healthy new month of November for your beautiful family and friends.
