Ducks-in-order time is nearing.

When I moved into my earlier 80's I guess I bought this book? I don't remember buying it, but I am pretty sure it wasn't a gift? It's a practical book, written by a very practical woman and it made sense to me. I would read it again, but I loaned it away. It boiled down to 5 steps.

Observe

Adapt

Let Go

 Accept

Love

I was at a point where I was realizing that my plans may not be my plans. They say if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. ;o) At age 80, I was in my 50th year of Karate training with plans to continue forever. This after both hip and shoulder replacements. As I told someone recently, "Fifty is good, as is sixty and seventy, in my opinion. Eighties is pretty good, but for me it seems that medical issues are surfacing almost daily. Most are temporary and go away till a later visit, and some appear to remind you of some idiocy at an early age. I am 83, my daughter says I am closer to 84 than 83, and she is usually correct. To be continued.

(Morbid? Inappropriate? Maybe, but I liked it.)

A 6+ minute video, Beethoven “Moonlight Sonata”

Mongkol is a 61-year-old former logging elephant. His captive-held life was spent hauling trees in the Thai forest.  His body shape is deformed through hard labor, he lost his right eye and tusk in this brutal logging practice.  Mongkol was rescued and brought to Elephants World to spend the rest of his days relaxing peacefully in freedom by the River Kwai.  I discovered Mongkol is an extremely gentle, sensitive elephant who enjoys music, especially this slow movement by Beethoven which I play to him occasionally in the day and night.

Jacki, I love the title of the book and i appreciate you "boiled it down" to 5 steps. These are the essence of the book, aren't they? They are easy to remember - although it's hard to keep them in mind? Getting older is a gift with lots of challenges. Let's be grateful for having them.
Jacki, i love that every day I find something on your blog I need to think about. Thank you. Have a great weekend!
