2025 New Year of the Snake

"I was born in the year of the snake,1941. When I found this out, I wasn't thrilled to be a snake. I told Demura Sensei and he said for a woman, that snake is good, but not for a man? I asked if I couldn't be a tiger? He said no, tigers not good for women?
So much to learn.

In Japanese art and mythology, the snake is a complex figure that represents both auspiciousness and malevolence. As a tradition goes, here are some nengajo, or New Years cards, from Japanese artists and designers featuring this year’s zodiac animal in all its colorful forms.

I always look forward to the animated cards from the  Bento Graphics (above) and this year’s take on the retro video game did not disappoint!

Studio Ghibli  (below) Hayao Miyazaki drew
an 8- headed snake in his signature style.

Fun?

Lahaina:  junk mail angel #14, collage

I did daily junk mail angels, it was
a series. And so, a quick step-by-step of #14.
(A side note: I noticed a strip of wrapping paper...
and got the idea to use it for a headdress?
Later I was sorry that I had started it, so time consuming, but had too much time in to quit! ;o)

"I like this part of the new year.

A few days in when everything settles after the hectic holiday pace.

Like a snow globe when the shaking stops."

I always look forward to the year in Asian culture. The graphics are always so clever. The Queen and Paddington was delightful: don't know how they did it. Always love your "how to" in making your wonderful wonky people. Happy New Year, Jacki.

Jacki, I never get tired seeing you step-by-steps. I'm glad you didn't quit with angel #14.
No matter how old we get the to do list never gets shorter. Don't you think, Jacki?
