Day 984: Guess what I did?

junk mail & paper collage postcard

How to spend two great hours on a Saturday morning ... for free?

If you're in the area and are not on the ASW mailing list, why?
Granted I teach for ASW and Catalyst, but regardless ...
they offer so many free and low cost classes for us,
and I intend to enjoy most.

I need to mention that back in March of 2013 ...
I paid $10 for a class with Vyal at ASW.
The best $10 I ever spent.
I blogged about it here and here, I was hooked.

There was a large turnout on this sunny Saturday,
to watch Vyal ...

paint a wall outside Art Supply Warehouse.

And, a demo canvas ...

and a community canvas!

I was a little jealous of a Vyal souvenir in this journal.

So a wall ...

two canvases, some souvenirs  in two hours ...

of fun with world famous artist, Vyal!

And, a free set of Molotow paint markers to take home.
I was a very happy "tagger!"

Day 983: 12 miles away from home and homesick.

Shadow, collage postcard

Not really, but I like that title!
I am indeed 12 miles from home ...
but I am not homesick.
I am house and grand-dog sitting.
I have 4,  count'em 4 grand-dogs at my side, literally.

There's Roxie, the matriarch Shih-tzu, 13 years old  ...
that's 91 in dog years and we relate.

Then Bella, 11, also Shih-tzu, the miracle dog.
Initially a very sick puppy ...
who triumphed and will outlast us all.

Laker, 5, the boxer, is the athlete
and the sweetest of the group.

Chloe, 2, an American Bulldog, is the diva,
with more personality that the whole gang.

So while the super-heroes are baking at Lake Havasu,
I am in good company.

Day 982: One cup of coffee, just one.

collage & acrylic postcard

At my eye doctor's appointment I was asked
a series of questions, one question ...
do I drink coffee?
I answered ... only one cup, ever.
Then I thought, is that blog-worthy?
982 days in a row, you get a bit desperate!

In Japan, 36 years ago, Sakagami Sensei's wife
kindly made me a cup of coffee ...
knowing Americans like coffee.

I drank it.
Maybe some kind of record?
Have a great weekend!

Day 980: Catching up on postcards ...

collage postcard

for a while now, I have been making postcards.

I teach classes and promise that if they trust me with their address,
I will mail them a handmade postcard.
And I do.
But sometimes, like now, I am behind in mailing.
So, with taxes done and the current class series completed,
I am, indeed, trying to catch up on postcards.

Not all gems ...

but hopefully better than junk mail?

In fact, I often recycle junk mail into my art.

Keeps me off the streets!

Day 979: Look at what Irene sent to me!

collage postcard

A lucky mail day for me ...
wonderful artist, Irene Rafael, sent me this 8"square!

mixed media by Irene Rafael

It is a Turkish fold to be part of a pop-up journal.
Eventually we will combine eight of these.
I am feeling very lucky to be a part of this group.
