Second Wednesday means Eastside!
A group of eight artists who meets once a month to make art,
hear news, have important discussions, and eat.
Today we were four, really missing Erin, Norma, Libby & Josie.
Our host Jody, is in her new home and it's gorgeous.

A home full of treasures, I zeroed in on the beautiful giant beads?
But that was the theme for the day.

And the view!
Jody made a delicious brunch of quiche, potatoes,
strawberries, peaches with yogurt, tea and coffee.
Jody's project for us was a stretchy bead bracelet,
with a soldered charm on copper. She had samples.

Three had jewelry experience, so I had great teachers to help me.
I learned to prep the copper for soldering, use flux,
and ... I didn't get burned.

 I made two bracelets, the first one took two and a half hours.
The second took just under an hour. Learning curve?

 Thank you Jody, Linda & Sherrill for you patience.
Thank you Jody for sharing your new home.

Good friend Valerie, came over Tuesday.
She let me unload my worries & fears. And, she
 was the impetus to help me start purging art stuff.
You probably can imagine my dilemna?
I have too much stuff. I love paper & even junk mail???
We filled one large cardboard box with collage ephemera.
Valerie took it immediately to her car, so I couldn't renege.
She will take it to St. Joseph's Convent where she teaches art.
We made a dent, and it has encouraged me to continue.
A long road ahead.

I am so touched by many of you who felt my darkness
and reached out with kindness and love.
Actually I am, and my family are fine, so blessed in fact.
My dark mood and tears comes from two long-time friends
who are in a situation that I can't fix.
I've prayed and looked at it from every angle and
I am learning that I can't fix everything. Another lesson.
I am not in charge, though I spend time trying to be.
Thank you again.

In the "too good not to share" department:

I heard a great TED talk today,
so good I should listen to it daily!

 It's 10 ways to have a better conversation by Celeste Headlee.
She is excellent, funny, 11 minutes goes by like 5, and it's here.
When you have time, I think you'd enjoy it. Let me know?

It never rains in SoCal ... but it did.

Probably no big deal to you where you are?

But, big stuff here, so I got proof!

And I love rain so much ... I decided to take a drive in it!

A chili dog seemed appropriate.
Sometimes it rains in SoCal ...

(I e-mailed this to close friends, but decided to share here too.)

* Study the picture carefully, then read the commentary.

"A wolf pack on the move :
The first 3 are the old or sick, they give the pace to the entire pack. If it was the other way round, they would be left behind, losing contact with the pack. In case of an ambush they would be sacrificed;
Then come 5 strong ones, the front line;
Next in the center are the rest of the pack members;
Then the 5 strongest following.
Last is alone, the Alpha. He controls everything from the rear. In that position he can see everything, decide the direction. He sees all of the pack.
The pack moves according to the elders' pace and help each other, watch each other.
