Another Grandhunk is a year older!

Grandhunk#2 is 27? How is it that twenty seven years packed full of so many memories can dissolve to the night he was born and I was blessed to witness him into this crazy world. Honestly, when I think about that evening, it is so vivid, it seems like yesterday.

There's the toddler years, and the team sports days through elementary school, high school and the high pressure athletics, college, girlfriends, jobs, school, I miss going to all of the games. Hard-working in many jobs, putting himself through University, graduating in '24, career job.

Jacob has always been a sweet, smart, determined, polite child with mainly great judgement and always a big, kind heart. But this past year has been a huge year of change and joy. Jacob married beautiful Emanuelle,  (Manu) last December and their love for each other is palpable. It is beautiful to see.

I wish this talented young man and his wife, a great, healthy, happy year ahead as they work and build their life together.

When conservationist Lawrence Anthony dedicated himself to helping a troubled herd of elephants in South Africa, few could have predicted the extraordinary bond that would develop between them.
At Thula Thula Game Reserve, Anthony worked patiently with elephants that many believed were too difficult to manage. Rather than relying on force, he built trust through consistency, understanding, and respect. Over time, the herd became one of the most famous examples of successful elephant rehabilitation.
Following Anthony's death in March 2012, a remarkable story emerged.
According to reports from those close to the reserve, members of the elephant herd traveled to the area around his home and remained there quietly for a period of time. Whether the elephants understood exactly what had happened remains unknown, but the event captured the imagination of people around the world.
The story resonated because elephants are already known for their intelligence, strong family bonds, and behaviors that suggest awareness of death and loss within their social groups. Researchers have documented elephants showing unusual interest in the remains of deceased elephants and remaining close to fallen companions.
While some details of the reported visits cannot be scientifically verified, the relationship between Lawrence Anthony and the elephants remains a powerful example of the connections that can develop between humans and wildlife when trust replaces fear.

Sometimes the most meaningful stories are not about control or ownership, but about mutual respect between species that learn to understand one another
