Playtime with junk mail ...

4 pieces of a mobile phone ad ...

4 more strips of black junk mail.

4 more red pieces and a hand drawn face.

3 pieces of black and white for hair.

15 scraps of junk mail that won't make it to the landfill.
I like the torn edges and exaggeration. Quirky?

What's your favorite book? This is one of mine.

"You become. It takes a long time.
That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily
or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept.
Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your
hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and
you get loose in your joints and very shabby.
But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real
you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand."
Margery Williams -The Velveteen Rabbit

What's yours?

Recipe: Matador Guacamole

Serves 4

Ingredients
  • 2 jalapeño chiles
  • 4 scallions
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 3 ripe avocados, halved, meat scooped out and diced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro leaves
To Prepare
Char the jalapeños and scallions on a preheated comal or skillet over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes, flipping often, until completely charred, wrinkled and softened. You can also do this under the broiler.
Once nicely softened and charred, slice the jalapeños and scallions and place them in a medium bowl with the soy sauce and lime juice. Stir and let marinate for at least 10 minutes, this makes for matador chiles or chiles tornados.
In a medium bowl mash the avocados. Mix in the matador chiles, scallions, 1/4 cup of the soy and lime mixture (reserve the remaining 1/4 cup for the milanesa torta if making), and the cilantro.

I went to see Parasite today.
A Koran film nominated for Picture of the Year.
It does have subtitles, but they just confirm the good acting.

The top winner at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Palm d’Or.
Parasite received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for Bong's direction and screenplay, cinematography, editing, and production values. At the 77th Golden Globe Awards, the film was nominated for three categories including Best Director and Best Screenplay, and won Best Foreign Language Film, making it the first ever Korean film to achieve that feat.[10] It was also nominated for four awards at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Not in the English Language. It is the first Korean film to receive nominations at the British Academy Film Awards (except for Best Film Not in the English Language). It garnered numerous accolades at the annual awards of film critics societies including Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Film, National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Picture, and New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It was chosen by Time magazine as one of the top ten films of 2019

“Parasite” follows a clear and resourceful Ki-Woo (Choi Woo-sik) young man living in a cellar that is easily accessible to local night screamers, with his several years younger street smart sister Ki-jung (Park So-dam), a farouche but friendly mother Chung-sook (Chang Hyae-jin) and the lucidly optimistic father  Ki-taek (Song Kang-ho). The family is trying to survive with the minimum wage,

stacking pizza boxes, stealing the wi-fi signal from their neighbors and leaving open windows during street disinfection to avoid paying for disinfection of their own home.

Personally, I will never look at a pear the same.

From sub-basement to the up-scale architectural residence,
the film has so many unexpected twists and turns.
