Day 1466: Breakfast at Kimmie's with Grandhunks!

"Mrs. Bohanon", old photo, collage & digital

Saturday morning was breakfast at Kimmies,
with Grandhunks #2 & 3, Grandhunk #1 had to work.
Food at Kimmie's is always great,
but time with these handsome hunks ... priceless!
GH#3, age 15-3/4 with a permit, drove us in my car.

If you have read this blog, you already know ...
our whole family is nuts, but we have fun.
I keep a jacket, visor, scarf & bag in my car,
you know,  just in case?

GH#2, 17, found them and ...

tried them on!

Did I mention that they are nuts?

And can you tell I am nuts about them?

Being a Grandma is the best!

"Susan", photo, collage & digital

A second dose of Laguna!
Actually, you can never overdose there.
Valerie and I went 4 weeks ago (seen here) ...
but Festival of the Arts had not opened at that time.
This was our primary destination today.

We parked in Lot 16 and took the free shuttle to ...

The festival grounds are wonderful,
a warm day, but with shade & a lovely beach breeze.

The exhibiting artists surround a lovely area & stage.

We visited the Junior Art Exhibit,
with amazing work from Pre-Kindergarten artists & up.

Day 1464: Meet Lily!

"Lily",  junk mail collage, photo & digital

If you saw yesterday's blog, here,
you know I'm crazy about Aunt Vonda's school photos.

I have & treasure hundreds.
Many have a name on the back.
Today's choice was blank, so I named her Lily.

I love everything about this photo.
I started a collage using phone-book pages ...

step 1

then adding various types of newsprint.

step 2

& scraps where I had cleaned acrylics off a brush.

step 3

The scanner cut off a skice of the left side.

step 4

Lily is printed on mulberry paper ...
thus the partial transparency.

step 5

Then I played a bit with filers.

step 6

Not thrilled with my work, but I learn by experimenting.
I lost a lot of Lily's details in how I initially printed her,
(the original is so special) so will try to do better on future faces.
Would so love your feedback if you have time?

Day 1463: Little treasures from days past.

"Donald", old photo, junk mail collage & digital

I had tentatively planned on doing a stamp person collage.
But then I saw this old photo & switched gears.
Do you do that?

I found a handy grey-ish cardboard and started tearing ...
I am intrigued by how we choose a color palette.
Is it mood, or just using whatever is handy?

The photo is from Aunt Vonda's school photos.
She originally taught in a one room school house,
then third grade for most of her long career.
She played ball with the kids at recess.
She was that kind of teacher.

Donald, 1980

She kept a picture of every child.
I have all of those photos & treasure every one.

Donald is off to Seattle.
