Day 613: Short and colorful?

Today's post will be short ...
it's catch up day today...
at this little "Mom & no Pop" ad agency.
And would you believe ...
clients expect me to get their work done?

From the colorful file ...
a digital collage from old labels, photos,
stamps and magazines.

Day 612: Earthquake country ...

This blog often shows local beach photos or great weather ...
but the backside of that is ... this is earthquake country!

Just felt a another tremor as I typed that!
Scary ...
but we try to deal with it. Even joke about it.
What else can we do?
100 after shocks since the 5.1 hit at 9:10 Friday night.
Well, we could be prepared ...

I chose to do collages.
In Day 610 blog, titled "Read the fine print" ...
I offered to send a mail artwork to
anyone who replied by 4.28.2014.
I had 9 replies, and I now have 8 addresses ...
& need an address for Lynn McMahon*.

I focused on postcards while listening to Mozart.

Day 611: Rusty scribbles ...

At the university, a hundred years ago ...
I had a drawing professor, Dr. Byron Shurtleff.
He was tough! He made us draw!
He required 50 drawing a week.
In a sketchbook, and he stamped each page ...
so you couldn't double-dip.
I mention him, because he is branded into my grey matter
because he cared and made us learn.
Isn't if funny how you appreciate the tough ones?
Now, a hundred years later I am on my MAC too much,
I do collage and tear paper, but rarely take time to draw.
Yesterday, I finished the RR journal project, so ...
decided to draw ...

in my small journal ...

from some faces in a magazine.

I call them irreverent sketches ...
not true to life, accurate or as good as I would like,
but I think Dr. Shurtleff would stamp the page.

Day 610: Read the fine print ...

You hear that all the time.
Read the fine print, but do you?
I think not.
Whether laziness, trust or whatever ...
most of us just sign.
Stay with me, there's a method to this madness ...

First another collage ...
made from magazine, junk mail & text.

... the fine print says ... leave me a comment and I'll send you a mail art.
But ... only if it's dated today 3/28/2014.
Everyone tells me this is a bad idea, but what does everybody know?
You comment, I'll reply with FB address, you message your address by my FB message and ...the P.O is in business!
Remember 3/28/2014 only.

Thinking of Terry!

I have an extra special friend.
I have known him less than a year,
but it feels like forever.
Have you ever had that?
I hope so.
It's like we were meant to meet.
When we did, we cried.
Not a romantic love, he has that already ...
but an additional true love.
He lives far away in the snow, I don't.
I admire him on so many levels ...
and wish him all things wonderful,
which are long overdue.

I made this postcard for Terry ...

made from magazine, airline vouchers & junk mail ...

back, address side of postcard

So for 49 cents ... it's on it's way.
(mail) Art delivered, door -to-door!

Day 608: Honored and flustered ...

Honored because I was asked to be a part ...
of a round-robin journal project ...
with five really amazing artists.
Flustered because now I have to do the work!
As usual, I have put it off till I can't any longer.
John Arbuckle kindly made a beautiful journal for me ...

which is lucky for me, because I have never made one ...
and I'm sure it wouldn't look terrific like this if I did.

bird's eye view of the journal's accordion folds

Called a dos-a-dos or back-to-back journal ...
handmade, of heavy watercolor paper,
this one is designed for six entries,
and we each work on one section and ...
at the end of the month mail it on to the next artist.

So to begin.
Because I am admittedly paranoid ...
about getting my mess on another section,
I saran wrapped & painter taped off ...
every molecule that wasn't mine.

Staring with beautiful white pages ...
and not an idea in sight!
Decided to coat all my surface pages ...
before I started some type of collage?
I do know what papers I like and so
I started with collaging strips across all six pages.

I LOVE old photos.
So I printed two sheets of old photos ...
to see if I could make that work into a collage?

This is the inside first page collage ...
(there are two full pages front and back,
and four half pages in the center)
before starting to add photos.

I started, still no firm plan ... just adding photos.

It was about then I decided that ...
it will be titled "dreams & memories".

Section one ...

Section two ...

Section three.
Not as good as I had hoped for, but ...
when I procrastinate, I run out of time.
