Day 554: One more time ...

But not the last time.

Today's collage  ...
from paper bag, magazine & junk mail.

Day 553: Back to basics ...

The past two posts have been older work ...
now it's back to now.

Today's collage ... a square, again.
Less color than usual, a combination of ...
magazine, junk mail & gesso.
I don't quite know why ...
but I like it!

Day 552: Matinee reward ...

Every so often ...

West Coast, 18 x 24" digital,  2003

I reward myself with a movie, a matinee.

West Coast Theater, 18 x 24" digital,  2003

Not at this theater, but another nearby.

Locally, they offer a reduced admission on Tuesdays ...

and a discount on the popcorn that I shouldn't eat.

I saw this Academy nominee, and it was excellent!
Then I came home to reality.
A day off is good sometimes.

Day 551: 3 sisters ...

At a loss.
Didn't know what to do for this blog post.
Then I received an e-mail from cousin Katha.
She asked about artwork I had done from this photo ...

A great photo, I think, of ...
Aunt Martha, Aunt Pauline and Aunt Fern.
Three of my Mom's four older sisters.

I found the above study done in 2010, but never used.

The above collage was a 36 x 48" canvas which sold.

I plan to do a new version of the photo.
Something special about old photos,
don't you think?

Day 550: Blast from the past ...

After a weekend of "Grandma TLC" (taxi-launder-cook) duty,
teaching the first class of a four-part journal session today ...
followed by a tournament meeting for February's International...
I decided to go to the files ...
thus this "blast from the past" post.

This is a 2003 digital work , titled "Ishigo's",
and is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Erik Takushi.
It is from my original photography,

from my favorite town,
Hanomu,  on the Big Island.

Day 549: Telephone book and wabi sabi ...

A strange combo.
 I agree.
I do collage.
Often with magazines & junk mail.
I also use acrylics & telephone book pages.

This is one of the later.
To me, it is wabi sabi ...
侘び...
in that it was simply done.

Day 548: You should see ...

On Sunday we went into this lovely little town.

Lunch at Berry Hill Bistro ...

more shopping and the park ...

then back to the studio for artwork.

While I was gone my seat was commandeered.

Our last evening in this fabulous studio.

And, the sunset on our last evening ...

as if an artist added a crimson brushstroke across the sky.

Day 547: And on Saturday ...

  a day trip to ...

Thanks to Laurel, a beautiful drive from Paso Robles.

We went downtown Morro Bay to shop and ...
visit the Farmers Market.

Then on to Lina G, "All The Trimmings" ...

Then it was on to Morro Rock.

A 576 foot volcanic peak that has served as ...

an important navigational aid for mariners over the years.

It is now the protected home of the Peregrine Falcon.

A gorgeous day at Morro Bay!
